Job Description

Our client one of Manchesters largest claimant law firms are seeking experienced solicitors/fee earners to join their busy (and growing) housing disrepair department. The successful applicant(s) will handle a caseload of pre and postlitigated claims brought primarily under Sections 9a and 11 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985. You will handle cases from initiation to resolution while adhering to the Pre Action Protocol for Housing Conditions.

Primary Responsibilities (nonexhaustive list):

  • Manage a caseload of pre and postlitigation housing conditions claims on behalf of tenants.
  • Adhere to the Pre Action Protocol for Housing Disrepair Claims.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation such as the Landlord & Tenant Act.
  • Draft Letters of Claim.
  • Compile special damages.
  • Review housing records to assess liability.
  • Evaluate surveyor s reports Claimant and Defendant.
  • Conduct negotiations and settlements.
  • Facilitate mediation.
  • Collaborate with counsel.
  • Initiate Court Proceedings.
  • Competently and effectively use Proclaim (claims management software) ensuring compliance with business processes and policies.
  • Communicate effectively with clients.
  • Foster positive and professional relationships across the organization.
  • Undertake additional duties as required to contribute to the smooth running of the business.


Requirements

  • At least 1 year of Litigation experience. Housing Disrepair Experience is desirable but not necessary. Our client will also consider applicants from a predominately P.I background (or other similar volume work). Full (re)training is available.
  • 1 year of Litigation experience.
  • Familiarity with Case Management Systems with Proclaim experience considered advantageous.
  • Highly organized and selfmotivated.
  • IT literate.
  • Working for a firm that are huge advocates for continual professional development.
