Job Description

The incumbent will lead and manage a faculty team across all divisions (Kindergarten to High School) in delivering a Chinese program established on high expectations and with clear KPIs. They will play a key role in shaping and delivering cultural education rooted in the rich and unique history of China within a Biblical worldview.

1. Curriculum & Instruction

  • Oversee and continuously develop the Chinese curriculum informed by policies directed by the HKSAR Education Bureau and the wider Mainland China context.
  • Source evaluate coordinate and procure learning resources to support the program.
  • Under the authority of the Head of Schools recruit highcaliber faculty to the program and ensure appropriate induction for them.
  • Supervise and manage Chinese faculty including lesson observation mentoring coaching and appraisal.
  • Be responsible for formulating and maintaining KPIs such as numbers securing AP at Grade 5 and ensuring that appropriate assessment and reporting strategies are in place to achieve these.
  • Coordinate professional development for Chinese faculty which aligns with the schools professional learning culture: evidencebased knowledgerich and teacherdirected.
  • Ensure that the Chinese program is founded on the authority of Scripture and that Biblical worldview documentation is in place.

2. Chinese Culture
  • Work with the SLT to ensure a strong program of cultural activities is in place in the school calendar.
  • Initiate missional and service projects (such as Week Without Walls) which offer students enrichment and connection with Chinese culture and history.
  • Develop opportunities for language immersion (such as exchanges) during the school year and at appropriate grade levels.
3. Placement and Academic Streaming
  • Oversee the creation implementation and grading of placement assessments.
  • Collaborate with divisional principals to ensure a structure of ability grouping is in place for all students appropriate to language levels.
  • Collaborate with Admissions in assessing students in this regard entering the school at all Grade levels.
4. Communication & Representation
  • Attend and present at educational visits parent information evenings community and other events as necessary.
  • Represent the school at official functions as requested.
  • Advise the Head of Schools on the strategic development of the school as a Hong Kong Chinese school with an international curriculum.
5. Teaching
  • There is no fixed timetable expectation for this role.
  • The incumbent will be expected to substitute in lessons as necessary and to mentor and model excellent pedagogy to faculty.
6. Performs adhoc duties as assigned.
  • Communication and Representation
  • Attend and present at educational visits parent information evenings community and other events as necessary.
  • Represent the school at official functions as requested.
  • Advise the Head of Schools on the strategic development of the school as a Hong Kong Chinese school with an international curriculum.


Requirements


  • At least 5 years of classroom teaching experience is required.
  • Proven track records in leading developing and commissioning the Chinese Programme in a K12 learning environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of Chinese language.
  • Considerable knowledge of the current literature trends and developments in the field of Chinese language education.
  • Previous experience in international schools and familiarity with North American curriculum is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor degree in Education or Bachelor degree in any subjects with PGDE (Postgraduate Diploma of Education) or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students faculty parents administrators school staff and the general public.
  • Able to motivate and lead instructional staff cultivating harmony and team unity.
  • Able to act as a cultural and language bridge between the Chinese team and other colleagues less familiar with Chinese culture.
  • Able to collaborate effectively with leadership in decisionmaking processes.
  • Able to set communicate monitor and evaluate goals.
  • High level of personal accountability.
  • Openness to give and receive feedback to facilitate growth and achievement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skill inclusive of meeting facilitation group presentation accurate documentation and appropriate correspondence. Bilingual skills in English and Chinese are necessary.
  • Expertise in problemsolving critical thinking and strategizing skills.
