Job Summary

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plans and coordinates mechanical and electro-mechanical projects relating to the repair remodeling and maintenance of buildings equipment and other related plant facilities involving complex factors.

Responsible for the results of extensive mechanical engineering projects which require the use of advanced techniques.

Acts in a liaison capacity between municipal agencies contractors consultants and other firms.

Gathers and analyzes pertinent information and provides logical comprehensive solutions.

Conducts field investigations inspections and tests relative to plant facilities.

Prepares comprehensive reports relating to inspections.

Prepares detailed sketches drawings cost estimates specifications and technical reports by applying engineering and mathematical principles and techniques.

Coordinates and reviews the work of a small staff of lower level engineers draftsmen and clerical personnel.

Estimates manpower needs and schedules and assigns work to meet completion dates.

Prepares and maintains accurate records of current and future projects work schedules and status reports.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Required to possess a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering and be registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer by the State of Illinois or have a combination of education and experience relating to this position.

Must have prior experience in an intermediate mechanical engineering position involving mechanical and electro-mechanical projects

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Must have a comprehensive knowledge of mechanical design necessary in the development of specifications drawings cost estimates technical reports and work schedules.

Must possess skills necessary for competency in the evaluation selection and application of engineering principles.

Required to have a comprehensive knowledge of applicable construction codes required by federal state and local rules and regulations.

Required to have a comprehensive knowledge of mathematics as it relates to mechanical engineering.

Must write and express oneself in a clear concise and comprehensive manner.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Usual office working conditions

Required to work at field locations on occasion subject to varying weather conditions moving vehicles electrically energized contact rail and elevated structures.
