Job Summary
POSITION: Math Specialist beginning 2026-2027 SY
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts Certication in Elementary Mathematics preferred
- Approximately 5 years of classroom teaching appropriate to level of position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualications as the School Committee may nd appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To help provide the kind of instruction and learning environment that will enable each student to master the mathematics skills appropriate to age grade level and individual capacity.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Meet the performance responsibility expectations of classroom teachers at appropriate grade levels.
Specialized Teaching Skills
- Administer diagnostic tests and evaluate math skills of new students and others referred by sta.
- Analyze school math test scores.
- Work with classroom teachers and children in the school mathematics program.
- Provides direct consultative help and training to sta.
- Outside the regular classroom teach individuals and small groups of children not able to succeed in the regular classroom math program.
- Prepare and conduct in-service programs on math.
- Orient new teachers to the math program of the school and assist as necessary.
- Assist sta in selecting and evaluating materials for math.
- Provide suggestions for enrichment programs in math for gifted/talented children.
- Meet with parents/guardians to discuss the schools math program.
- Keep abreast of new developments in math techniques materials and evaluation and inform sta.
- Attend appropriate math workshops and conventions.
- Orient substitute teachers to schools math program and assist as necessary.
- Such other duties as assigned by Principal.
