Position Summary

The Maintenance & Security Technician is responsible for maintaining campus facilities supporting custodial and grounds operations and providing campus safety and security services. This position combines facility maintenance event support custodial responsibilities and campus patrol duties to help ensure efficient campus operations and a secure environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Maintenance & Facilities Support

  • Inspect troubleshoot and perform minor maintenance repairs on campus buildings fixtures furnishings and equipment.
  • Respond to work orders and complete routine maintenance tasks including light plumbing carpentry painting and light bulb replacement.
  • Support campus cleanliness through custodial duties such as trash and recycling removal restroom maintenance floor care and exterior glass cleaning.
  • Maintain sidewalks parking lots common areas and landscaping by removing litter and debris.
  • Assist with event setup teardown furniture moving and campus support activities.
  • Participate in winter weather operations including snow and ice removal from walkways and entryways.
  • Maintain inventory records for tools supplies and replacement materials.

Campus Safety & Security

  • Patrol campus grounds by vehicle bicycle and on foot to help maintain a safe and secure campus environment.
  • Monitor buildings and grounds to ensure facilities are properly secured after hours.
  • Respond to service calls incidents emergencies accidents and suspicious activity.
  • Complete incident and investigation reports and assist with follow-up investigations when needed.
  • Support emergency response efforts and coordinate with police fire and emergency personnel as appropriate.
  • Provide traffic and crowd management support during university events.
  • Help identify and address fire/life safety hazards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • At least one year of safety/security experience general maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Basic computer proficiency required.
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse campus community.

Certifications & Requirements

  • Oregon DPSST unarmed private security certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid Oregon drivers license with an acceptable driving record required.

Physical Requirements

This position involves physically demanding work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Duties may include standing walking lifting pushing pulling kneeling climbing and moving heavy objects up to 100 pounds occasionally.
