The Regulatory and Identity Services Taituarā branch shapes systems and services that touch almost every New Zealander. Our diverse nationwide and international team works at the intersection of innovation and integrity with a strong commitment to cultural responsibility and authentic engagement with Māori and Pasifika communities.

Within this the Regulatory Services Group has oversight of three significant regulatory systems Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Gambling and Charities. It also leads work on online casino gambling and conducts regulatory and criminal investigations under the Private Security Personnel legislation.

We are a responsive riskbased regulator focused on prevention and reducing harm. Our AML/CFT function is dynamic and fastpaced with a significant multiyear programme underway to strengthen New Zealands regulatory system ahead of the 2028/29 international evaluation.

The role Te tūnga

As Deputy Director AML/CFT you will play a critical leadership role in delivering effective regulatory oversight across parts of the regulated sector. This role will have oversight of DNFBPs Money Remitters Virtual Asset Service Providers and the Gambling Sector.

Reporting to the Director AML/CFT you will work closely with fellow Deputy Directors to ensure a coherent and consistent approach across all sectors.

You will lead operational planning and delivery ensuring alignment with the national AML/CFT strategy while embedding a strong riskbased regulatory approach. You will connect intelligence operations and investigations and work collaboratively across Regulatory Services and wider DIA teams to strengthen compliance outcomes and reduce harm.

This is a highly strategic and peoplefocused role requiring you to lead highperforming teams build capability and contribute to the overall leadership of the AML/CFT Directorate.

  • Proven senior leadership experience delivering operational regulatory functions in a complex environment
  • Deep knowledge of regulatory systems riskbased regulation and compliance and enforcement practice
  • Strong ability to lead motivate and develop highperforming teams and build a collaborative culture
  • Demonstrated experience influencing strategy and working across agencies to improve system outcomes
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to build trusted relationships internally and externally
  • Strategic thinking capability with the ability to translate direction into effective operational delivery
