Drug and Alcohol Inpatient Unit 44 beds

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant to join our specialist Alcohol and Prescription Medication Service at Brisbane Private Hospital.

Working within a multidisciplinary team the Clinical Nurse Consultant will provide advanced clinical leadership and support the delivery of evidence-based care for patients undergoing withdrawal and structured group programs. This role combines direct clinical care leadership and quality improvement to ensure optimal patient outcomes and service excellence.

Our inpatient and day patient treatment includes structured therapeutic group programs and individualised recovery planning designed to support patients through withdrawal and ongoing recovery.

About us:

Damascus Health Services is a 44 bed unit located in Brisbane Private Hospital in Spring Hill. We provide a confidential and flexible approach to the care and treatment of people with problems related to the use of alcohol and/or prescribed and over-the-counter drugs

As a Clinical Nurse your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide advanced clinical assessment care planning and coordination for patients experiencing substance use disorders including withdrawal management
  • Support the safe delivery of care in alignment with local and national policies.
  • Deliver and support therapeutic treatment planning
  • Provide clinical leadership and mentorship to nursing staff promoting best practice and professional development
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including VMOs allied health and peer supports
  • Lead and participate in quality improvement activities incident reviews and clinical governance processes.
  • Contribute to patient-centred care initiatives and continuous service improvement aligned with consumer engagement principles.

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.

  • Minimum 35 years experience in mental health and/or drug & alcohol nursing.
  • Demonstrated experience in acute inpatient settings and withdrawal management.
  • Strong clinical assessment risk management and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of patient centred care and service delivery.
  • Excellent communication leadership and interpersonal skills.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health and/or Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD)
  • Experience in private healthcare or specialist AOD services.
  • Knowledge of quality and safety processes including incident management systems.
  • Experience supporting staff education supervision and change management.
