SH 933 GIS Analyst Indiana
Position Overview:
The GIS Analyst or Spatial Data Analyst will prepare analyze and document geographic data that support public health mapping dashboard products and place-based interpretation. This role will help ensure maps layers boundaries joins and geographic assumptions are accurate clearly documented and appropriate for internal and public-facing use.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare geospatial layers for dashboards and maps.
- Support ESRI ArcGIS ArcGIS Dashboards or Experience Builder workflows.
- Map indicators by approved geography such as ZIP ZCTA tract or county level.
- Prepare aggregate geography outputs for public-facing use.
- Document layer sources joins refresh steps and spatial assumptions.
- Quality check legends labels filters boundaries and geographic interpretation.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelors degree in Geography GIS Public Health Data Science or a related field preferred.
- Certifications: GIS Professional (GISP) certification is a plus but not required.
- Experience: Demonstrated GIS experience required. Experience with public health or population-level data strongly preferred.
- Skills: Strong spatial data preparation and quality assurance skills. Ability to clearly document technical assumptions and communicate geographic limitations to non-technical audiences.

- Careful quality assurance of legends labels boundaries and filters
- Effective collaboration with public health analysts dashboard developers and program staff
- Proactive problem-solving around ZCTA and ZIP code limitations

- Adaptability in working with diverse data sets including ACS Census PLACES PRISM emergency department visits opioid or surveillance data
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed in an office or remote setting with extended periods using a computer monitor.
- Regular interaction with internal data users epidemiologists and communications staff.
- May involve rapid turnaround requests for map products or data layers.
- Occasional need to interpret ambiguous or incomplete geographic data.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift and carry up to 15 pounds occasionally. Position requires sitting for more than 66% of time on duty. Use of hands to finger handle or feel over 66% of time on duty. Reaching with hands or arms less than 33% of time. Full ability to talk and hear. Correctable vision required for detailed spatial quality review.
