Environmental Program Support Team Manager

Metropolitan is seeking an experienced Environmental Program Support Team Manager to lead environmental compliance programs supporting hazardous materials hazardous waste air quality and wastewater operations. This is a high-impact leadership role within a mission-driven public agency serving millions across Southern California.

Position Overview
This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable federal and California environmental statutes and regulations including but not limited to:
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA)
Clean Air Act (CAA)
Clean Water Act (CWA)
California Hazardous Waste Control Law
South Coast AQMD and other regional air district requirements
Industrial wastewater discharge permits

This role is ideal for someone who understands how environmental compliance supports infrastructure reliability capital projects and operational continuity in the water industry.

Were Looking For
68 years of progressively responsible environmental compliance experience
Strong working knowledge of California environmental laws and regulatory agencies
Supervisory lead or project management experience
Background in environmental science engineering or related hard science
California PE registration or ability to obtain Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (within 6 months)

Schedule: 9/80 Monday through Friday/Every other Friday off. Monday through Thursday 9 hours per day 8 hours per day every other Friday. Start times are no earlier than 6 am and end times are no later than 6 pm.

Hybrid: Metropolitans current practice in this position is a hybrid work schedule. This typically includes two days a week in person and the other days remote. This is subject to change dependent on organizational addition a telework policy is scheduled for negotiations and once completed and implemented will provide final direction on the hybrid schedule.

This position may require coming into the office more than 2 days per week based on business needs.

Travel: This position will require travel to various District facilities throughout the service area sometimes requiring overnight stay in the project area.


EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science engineering or other related field and eight years of progressively responsible experience relating to environmental compliance of which two years must have been in a project management supervisory or lead capacity; OR a masters degree from an accredited college or university in environmental science engineering or other related field and six years of progressively responsible experience relating to environmental compliance of which two years must have been in a project management supervisory or lead capacity.

Other related field of study is defined as: Environmental Science Engineering Chemistry Biology Biochemistry Public Health Occupational Health and Safety Law or any related hard science degree.

CERTIFICATIONS LICENSES AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
License(s):

Valid California Class C Drivers License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.

Registrations:
Registration as a California Professional Engineer; OR
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (must be obtained within 6 months of starting the position).
