    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. California teaching credential (multiple subject credential with 12 semester/18 quarter units in science) or single subject science
    2. Science major or minor desirable
    3. Three years classroom teaching experience
    4. Ability to teach science to K-6 students in STEAM laboratory environment
    5. Ability to support teachers with implementation of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
    6. Ability to work in multiethnic environment


    REPORTS TO: Principal

    JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an awareness of role of science in economic and social progress; to motivate each pupil to acquire knowledge and skills of scientific investigation principles and skills using the Engineering Process and Design Thinking to solve problems; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in scientific fields with a focus on STEAM activities while supporting classroom teachers in the planning and implementation of inquiry based NGSS lessons

    PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Assists school site in program implementation and alignment of instructional delivery in the Next Generation Science Standards
    2. Teaches skills and scientific attitudes through courses in general science earth sciences biology chemistry physics physiology or science problems to K-6 pupils utilizing course of study adopted by Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities
    3. Plans inquiry-based science lessons involving demonstrations lectures discussions and student investigations; organizes laboratory activities for optimal learning
    4. Demonstrates scientific concepts by use of scientific instruments experiments investigations and standard or teacher-prepared models charts sketches and other instructional materials
    5. Provides individual or small group instruction in order to adapt curriculum to needs of pupils and to accommodate circumstances where variety of projects and experiments are being worked on simultaneously
    6. Instructs pupils in proper use care and safe handling of chemicals science equipment and plant and animal life
    7. Provides for safe storage and proper use of materials equipment and tools; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to equipment as required
    8. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior for productive learning environment during class sessions laboratory sessions and field trips and after school activities
    9. Evaluates each pupils growth in knowledge skills and scientific attitudes in course being taught
    10. Selects and requests books instructional aids science equipment chemicals and supplies and maintains inventory records as required cooperative with the principal or designee
    11. Maintains professional competence through professional development provided by the District and self-selected professional growth activities
    12. Identifies pupils needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems
    13. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs
    14. Collaborates with school administration in providing STEAM displays showcases and programs for school and community and in sponsoring STEAM activities
    15. Assists pupils in selection and development of individual research projects
    16. Cooperates with school administration in providing science displays science fair and programs for school and community and in sponsoring science activities
    17. Communicates and collaborates with parents teachers and Academy Staff
    18. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during assigned scheduled work day
    19. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities
    20. Collaborates with teachers to help plan and implement NGSS based inquiry lessons in their respective classrooms
    21. Models personal and professional values of equity integrity caring collaboration personal and collective accountability
    22. Performs other related duties as assigned


    SALARY: $74373 - $133656 annually


    EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Districts Improvement of Professional Services handbook Board Policies and Proceduresand consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable

Must present verification of completion of ChildAbuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annuallythereafter as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
