Job Summary
Responsibilities: This position is responsible for assisting students in learning subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development of mathematical problem solving. Math paraprofessionals can assist students within the classroom setting as well as in small group pull-out sessions. Essential Functions: facilitates the identification of students eligible for remedial instructioncollaborates with classroom teacher to plan a program of study that meets the individual needs interest and abilities of the studentsmeets with and instructs assigned students; assesses student learningimplements a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media focused on attaining math benchmarks as identified by the frameworks and local curriculum guideassists in preparing students for Mathematics MCAS and other assessmentscommunicates with classroom teacher regularly to adjust program of study as neededprepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisorencourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior and achievement documents the learning problems of students and seeks the assistance of district specialists as requiredcommunicates with parents when appropriatemaintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy and administrative regulationstrives to maintain and improve professional competence especially as relates to the teaching of mathematicsattends staff meetings and serves on curriculum committees as required performs other duties as assigned Ability to:communicate effectively both verbal and in writing with teachers students and administrationsolve practical problems with students and staffunderstand and carry out oral and written directionsidentify analyze solve and organize work to meet deadlines provide information and assistance to parents the general public and other staff members in a helpful courteous and timely mannermaintain cooperative and productive working relationship when dealing with students and staffKnowledge of:best practices in mathematics instruction interventions and remediationchild development and challenges faced by students with or without learning or substantial disabilitieseffective use of computer and relevant educational software applicationsinterpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesydistrict policies rules and regulations applicable to the school districteffective use of data to increase student achievementQualifications:evidence of the ability to perform each essential function satisfactorily; the requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability Massachusetts Department of Education certification for specific grade levels preferredvalid Massachusetts Department of Education certification in mathematics preferredEducation:a minimum of a Bachelors degree preferably with a focus in mathematicsPhysical Demands:The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job as described above.
