The WFP Volunteer will join the Due Diligence Unit within the Private Partnerships Division (PSP) of the World Food Programme (WFP) which is based at WFPs headquarters in Rome Italy. The Due Diligence Unit was established to support implementation of WFPs private sector partnerships and fundraising strategy.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The WFP Volunteer will join the Due Diligence Unit as research analyst. Under the general supervision of PSPs Head of Global Services the responsibilities of the Volunteer will include:

  • Conduct research on prospective WFP private sector partners and donors with a focus on core United Nations values and principles concerning human rights labour the environment and anti-corruption as reflected in the United Nations Global Compact the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the Guidelines on a Principle-based Approach to the Cooperation between the United Nations and the Business Sector.

  • Identify practices and policies that may pose a reputational risk to WFP or otherwise appear to compromise the integrity or independence of the organization.

  • Timely preparation of reports that present research findings in a neutral accurate and concise manner including objective analysis of key facts and issues.

  • Use and develop knowledge-management tools related to the work of the Due Diligence Unit.

  • Assist with development of reference materials practice notes training materials and other documents as appropriate.

  • Performing other duties as required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Be aMasters student or a graduate in Business Administration/Management Economics Law or other relevant fields such as Finance Ethics or Human Rights.

  • Excellent written and spoken English is required (proficiency/level C). Working knowledge of another official UN language (French Spanish Arabic Chinese Russian plus Portuguese) is an asset.

  • Awareness of issues relevant to corporate social responsibility.

  • General knowledge of the United Nations system is an asset.

  • Knowledge in conducting open-source and database research.

  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.

  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office and Internet-based research.

  • Strong time/project management skills and ability to work under stringent deadlines.

Throughout their assignment WFP Volunteer have access to an industry leading learning platform weLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars as appropriate.

LEARNING ELEMENTS

At the end of the assignment the Volunteer should:

  • Develop mastery of report drafting with an emphasis on providing a balanced and thorough analysis of key facts issues and concerns without bias.

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and identify potential reputational risks or policies that might compromise the organizations integrity or independence. This includes assessing the social environmental and ethical practices of prospective partners.

  • Acquire experience in utilizing and improving knowledge-management systems making future research and analysis more efficient and organized.

  • Gain exposure to the due diligence process concerning value and principles on human rights labour environment and anti-corruption.
