Job Summary
POSITION TITLE: Montessori Teacher (Age 2-6)
FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Full Time/Exempt
REPORTS TO: Grade School Principal
EVALUATED BY: Principal and Vice Principal

The Montessori Teacher at Notre Dame de Sion Grade School provides high quality and rigorous instruction preparing lessons and conducts classroom small group and individual instruction develop the whole child. The Montessori Teacher assesses student growth and works collaboratively with staff faculty and parents to foster student growth and achievement.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
- Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the Sion mission.
- Ability to pass a required background check
- Organized self starter who can efficiently move between tasks throughout the day
- Strong understanding of child growth and development
- Commitment to creating an inclusive and diverse community as reflected through the curriculum and learning environment.
- Knowledge and implementation of best practices in student instruction and learning.
- Ability to interact professionally with students parents staff and students.
- Develop a positive presence in the external community.
- Montessori teaching experience at the 3-6 or 2-3 year old level (1 year)
- Montessori 3-6 Teaching Certificate
- Strong public speaking skills
- Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the Pre-K-8 divisions in faculty committees
- Ability to set goals and accept professional feedback
- Must demonstrate competency with school related technology
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Lead instruction for a Pre-K Montessori classroom consisting of twelve students ranging in age from 2 to 6 years old
- Collaborating with other Montessori teachers to horizontally and vertically align Sions curriculum
- Work with Level Leader on content planning and programming
- Work and collaborate with Pre-K Montessori team to plan interdisciplinary projects and experiential learning
- Employ effective classroom management techniques that are fair just age-appropriate and preserve the ego of the student
- Demonstrate effective use and understanding of the Montessori method for instruction
- Responsible for regular parent communication through email appropriate digital classroom management systems and parent/teacher conferences twice a year
- Participate in the life of the school through service projects Mass/prayer service assemblies community garden admissions events Sion Alliance events mission related retreats and advancement events
- Seek and take part in professional development to enhance classroom practice
- Actively participate in weekly faculty development meetings and before school after school recess and lunch duties
- Assists with other projects programs and planning as assigned by Grade School Principal
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Works in classroom environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
- Occasionally bend stoop and squat
- May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
- Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled environment
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
