Job Summary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Mississippi teaching license with appropriate Drivers Education endorsement/certification
  • Valid Mississippi drivers license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to communicate effectively with parents students and staff
  • Knowledge of Mississippi traffic laws defensive driving techniques and safe vehicle operation
  • Ability to supervise students in both classroom and behind-the-wheel settings

JOB GOAL:

Teach Drivers Education courses to secondary students in an effort to promote safe driving habits knowledge of traffic laws responsible decision-making and the development of driving skills necessary for safe vehicle operation and licensure in the State of Mississippi.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan instruction according to the district instructional management plan and Mississippi Drivers Education standards
  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated
  • Develop and maintain a classroom and vehicle environment conducive to effective learning by organizing time materials equipment and instructional resources
  • Prepare for students and classes assigned incorporating the instructional management program and providing written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Drivers Education subject matter while employing a variety of instructional techniques methods and media consistent with the needs and capabilities of individual students and groups
  • Provide instruction in:
    • Defensive driving techniques
    • Mississippi traffic laws and regulations
    • Vehicle operation and maintenance basics
    • Safe and responsible driving practices
    • Accident prevention and emergency procedures
    • Behind-the-wheel driving experiences
  • Ensure students achieve the minimum requirements necessary for successful course completion and driver readiness
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law district policy and administrative regulations
  • Supervise students during classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training
  • Conduct routine safety inspections of instructional vehicles and report maintenance concerns promptly
  • Enforce all district and state safety regulations regarding student transportation and driver instruction
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy on education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Obtain and use information about the needs and progress of individual learners and revise instruction when necessary
  • Refer learners with special problems to appropriate specialists or administrators
  • Help students develop positive self-concepts and encourage them to demonstrate responsible behavior both in and out of vehicles
  • Counsel students when problems arise and adjustments are needed
  • Maintain open lines of communication with students and parents regarding academic progress driving performance and behavioral concerns
  • Accept a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities as assigned
  • Assist in the selection of books vehicles simulators equipment and other instructional materials
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings PTA meetings in-service training and professional development activities as scheduled by the principal or central office departments
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relations with fellow employees and administrators
  • Provide for professional growth through participation in workshops seminars conferences and advanced coursework
  • Meet expectations as required by the Mississippi Teacher Evaluation System (MTES)
  • Display pride and loyalty to self school and district
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as requested by his/her supervisor(s)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year established by the Sunflower County Consolidated School District Board.
