Description

The Child Protection division of Human Services Public Health in Health and Human Services is seeking to fill multiple Child Protection Social Worker (CPSW) vacancies. The primary functions of these positions are listed below. Each individual vacancy will have specialized duties and responsibilities depending on the area of assignment: Investigation Case Management and ICWA Case Management.

The new Child Protection Social Workers who have not already completed induction training will participate in the induction training on Hennepin Countys policies procedures and practices as well as mandated Department of Human Services training. This will include in-person and virtual instructor-led training court room training job shadowing other Child Protection Social Workers on a rotational basis and close supervision while receiving initial case assignments.

Location and hours:
These positions are hybrid and will be performed both on-site at various designated Child Protection satellite offices in the community and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but flexibility will be required to work outside of these hours and at times that will include evenings and weekends. Additionally various Child Protection Social Worker positions will require being able to report/respond in person to an emergent situation within 30 to 60 minutes. While these positions are designated as hybrid based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

All of these positions are full-time benefit-earning positions. You must be acurrent regular or probationary employeeof Human Services Public Health toapply for these positions. Limited duration employees are not eligible.

These positions are internally classified as a Social Worker Child Protection.

Candidates will be hired into one of these areas based on hiring need:


In these positions you will:

  • Attend on-line interactions meetings and court hearings remotely.
  • Attend in-person interactions meetings trainings and court hearings in designated Child Protection satellite offices or other community agencies.
  • Conduct in-person visits in client homes and various other community locations.

Need to have:

Nice to have:

  • Knowledge of and experience working with child protection systems.
  • Internship and/or volunteer experience in a social services environment.
  • Experience:
    • Providing comprehensive social worker case management services with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
    • Developing care and case plans that meet the needs of and ensure safety and stability for clients and families.
    • Partnering with social workers departmental staff collateral resources and others to develop work agreements and outcome-focused relationships to assist clients/families in achieving their goals.
  • Effective communication skills both verbally and in writing including phone skills to obtain accurate data from reports and writing skills to record the information clearly and concisely.
  • Bilingual skills in English and another language(s).
  • Advanced skill in a variety of computer applications includingSSIS ECF and/or comparable programs.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities in a timely manner.
