GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Working in the Office of Outdoor Recreation of Wyoming State Parks and Cultural Resources under limited supervision the incumbent is responsible for coordinating and assisting mission-critical agency outreach efforts among federal state and local agencies elected officials non-governmental organizations businesses recreationists and other key stakeholders to help grow and diversify the states economy through responsible and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities.Working for the State of Wyoming offers more than a paycheck. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.- Outreach Coordinator and Agency Representation: Represent State Parks & Cultural Resources and the Outdoor Recreation Office at special events programs trade shows conferences schools summits recreation activities and public meetings. Deliver information on the benefits of outdoor recreation in a compelling manner to diverse audiences and promote improved access to outdoor recreation opportunities. Coordinate training and educational programs to promote safe and responsible recreation. Research and provide information about existing and potential funding sources for outdoor recreation infrastructure and education. Reach out to local communities as a resource for information about feasibility and funding for outdoor recreation opportunities and enhancements. Conduct site visits to gauge or evaluate the value and impacts of outdoor recreation infrastructure projects.
- Special Events and Program Coordination and Development: Overall creation and management of special events for the Office of Outdoor Recreation often in cooperation with other sections of the agency or outside entities. Direct or coordinate fundraising logistics and marketing efforts for special outdoor recreation events such as the Governors Magpul Match First Day Hikes National Public Lands Day and outdoor recreation-related meetings or summits. Work with stakeholders and communities to develop new partnerships for events and programs.
- Communications: Serve as a main point of contact statewide for information about the Office of Outdoor Recreation and recreation opportunities in Wyoming. Use a variety of methods and technologies to communicate key messages themes and timely information for the Office of Outdoor Recreation. Communicate directly with key stakeholders land managers land owners and elected officials. Work with the agencys Communications and Marketing section to write press releases develop marketing materials and participate in media interviews.
- Supervision of seasonal staff interns and volunteers: Lead or assist in the recruitment interviewing and hiring of seasonal staff and interns for the Office of Outdoor Recreation particularly the seasonal Recreation Pathfinders who serve as statewide experts on recreation. Train direct and supervise seasonal staff to assist in the successful achievement of the agencys mission and goals. Coordinate and lead assigned staff toward the completion of special projects and outreach assignments.
- Manage and Update Public Information Sources: Regularly provide updated information for the Office of Outdoor Recreation website such as press releases general news and information a newsletter event calendars videos photos and the Wonder Map. Update all social media outlets regularly with compelling and interesting information. Compile information and maintain databases for outdoor recreation opportunities and experiences in Wyoming as well as information about government agencies businesses and nonprofits operating in the outdoor recreation sector. Compile or assist with various reports such as information related to the economic impact of outdoor recreation in Wyoming or agency annual reports.
- Customer service and direct assistance: Provide excellent internal and external customer service in a timely manner. Respond to inquiries about outdoor recreation in Wyoming or route them to the appropriate entity. Provide information upon request. Represent the Outdoor Recreation Office with the highest standards of professionalism.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to applicants with a bachelors degree in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management Natural or Cultural Resource Management. Public Administration Communications Marketing or a related field.
KNOWLEDGE:- Knowledge of existing and potential outdoor recreation opportunities and experiences throughout Wyoming.
- Skillful critical thinking and conflict management abilities.
- Ability to use computerized tools including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Ability to maintain long-term positive relationships with coworkers stakeholders land managers and elected officials.
- Skill in providing outstanding internal and external customer service.
- Ability to listen and maintain decorum with a variety of audiences by communicating in a clear concise and professional manner.
- Skillful written and oral communication particularly among individuals with different interests.
- Ability to stay organized manage time efficiently and handle multiple ongoing priorities.
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment.
- Ability to stay within a budget and plan accordingly.
- Knowledge skills and experience in fundraising logistics management and marketing of large events.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must travel 5 to 10 days per month mostly in-state but at times out of state.- This position may require occasional weekend work.
- Must work outdoors in all weather conditions.

- Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license.
