This position provides an opportunity for an individual with expertise and required qualifications in the construction field to apply grow and demonstrate their leadership and skill level in this role that is critical to Wastewater Treatment Divisions (WTD) construction project oversight effort. Inspection of the civil/structural and related mechanical components of construction projects including standalone contracts at WTD Treatment Plants (primarily the South Treatment Plant) various WTD offsite facilities and other WTD facilities throughout the County as needed. Ensure compliance with the Contract documents and code for the repair and/or installation of various components of WTDs including pipelines earthwork shoring concrete (foundations above and below grade structures etc.) paving structural steel and other work involving the civil/structural trades. Contract value amounts vary from small <$10k work orders to large $200M lump sum and alternative delivery contracts.
You will have the opportunity to cultivate effective working relationships with contractors consultants project teams and operations and maintenance staff through mutual understanding of goals efficient communication and trust.
About the Role:The function of the Civil/Structural Inspector performs daily in-person contractor/construction oversight and field inspection on small(<$10k) to large (<$300M) high-and-low profile Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects with primary civil/structural discipline/trade scopes in coordination with other Construction Managers (CM) Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Contractor staff. The Inspector function is primarily responsible for the daily in-field oversight and monitoring of contractor field activity daily documentation of progress construction activity resources used identifying and communicating imminent construction issues and close collaboration and coordination of construction activities with O&M to avoid operational impacts.
As the onsite field representative the ideal candidate will hit-the-ground-running be a quick learner and upon onboarding/training quickly apply high level of integrity and emotional intelligence on projects assigned as field representative leading overall daily onsite construction activity by applying quality control services building rapport with other project team members in achieving project objectives. Ideal candidate will model behavior reflective of conduct expected of County staff whose job duties involve carrying out job functions and use of County resources autonomously with little to no supervision and in work environments likely observable by the Public. Ideal candidate will possess the ability to mentor junior classification or new hires.
About the Team:This position supports civil and structural discipline inspection assignments on standalone lump sum and construction work order contracts administered by WTDs Construction Management Offices for Capital Improvement Program (CIP) projects at WTD plants and offsite facilities as directed.

Job Duties
What You Will Be Doing: Coordinate work with Project Representative Contractor and Operations & Maintenance team.
Perform construction inspections to ensure construction is compliant with the contract specifications and plans.
Review and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with wastewater treatment requirements.
Document work performed in the Daily Inspection Report and upload to SharePoint and asset management databases.
Take photo documentation and upload to SharePoint.
Apply experience and help solve construction problems.
Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills
Qualifications You Bring:
Knowledge of the construction of civil/structure elements of construction especially as applied to wastewater treatment facilities.
Two years of technical school training in civil engineering or a related technical field and one (1) year of progressively responsible construction inspection or sub-professional engineering experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Or Six years of progressively responsible construction inspection or responsible engineering experience is required preferably in the fields of construction inspection.
Or Three years of experience as a Wastewater Construction Management II is required.
Experience with managing construction activities in operational environments and knowledge of hazards and safety procedures involved.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications as applied to wastewater treatment facility and large conveyance systems.
Ability to inspect materials and workmanship and recognize deficiencies and omissions requiring correction.
Knowledge of relevant construction laws ordinances codes regulations specifications and standards.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing including ability to use computer word processing data analysis and documentation management.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:Experience in trenchless pipeline construction or rehabilitation.
Experience in the construction or maintenance of industrial equipment such as raw sewage pumps screens HVAC odor control equipment etc

Working Conditions:
- Work Location: South Treatment Plant - 1200 Monster Rd SW Renton WA 98057 and other assigned WTD Offsite Facilities.
- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.
- Union Representation: This position is represented by Technical Employees Association (TEA).
