Job Summary
A visionary and accomplished Music specialist is required to lead the department at a distinguished independent school in Gloucestershire from September 2026. This is a full-time permanent leadership opportunity for an experienced practitioner and performer ready to oversee a high-profile department and drive the schools musical heritage into its next chapter.

The Role
Departmental Leadership: Leading a team of academic Music teachers and a large cohort of Visiting Music Teachers (VMTs) ensuring excellence in both the classroom and individual tuition.
Curriculum Oversight: Designing and delivering a rigorous academic curriculum for KS3 GCSE and A-Level while fostering a love for theory composition and appraising.
Performance & Events: Coordinating a comprehensive calendar of concerts recitals chapel services and major theatrical productions ensuring high-quality performance opportunities for all pupils.
Strategic Growth: Driving student recruitment for the subject and overseeing the scholarship process for exceptionally gifted musicians.
Resource Management: Managing the schools bespoke music facilities including performance halls recording studios and instrument inventories.
Community Engagement: Strengthening links with external musical organizations conservatoires and the wider Gloucestershire arts community.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or significant experience leading a department within a high-standard independent school.
A strong honors degree in Music (BMus/BA) or a post-graduate qualification from a reputable university or conservatoire.
Exceptional instrumental or vocal ability with the confidence to conduct ensembles and accompany students.
Proven success in teaching academic Music at all Key Stages with a track record of achieving top-tier grades.
Outstanding organizational and administrative skills capable of managing the complex logistics of a busy music department.
A professional resilient and inspirational leadership style.
