The Department of Labor and Workforce Development Division of Vocational Rehabilitation is recruiting for two
Disability Adjudicator 1/2/3s located in Anchorage!
No Cover Letter Required!




These positions are in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 15/17/19.


What You Will Be Doing:
As a Disability Adjudicator 1/2/3 you will evaluate medical criteria and eligibility for the Social Security Administration (SSA) disability program.

The position specifically analyzes disability claims as required by SSA rules regulation and policies.

The position evaluates data contained from the medical vocational and legal reports to determine whether there is a need for additional documentation.

This position works up to 1 year under direct daily supervision and structured training to develop knowledge of the programs policies and rules.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:


Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of postsecondary education from an accredited college and/or experience that involved: 1) extensive person-to-person contact to explain policies procedures services or requirements or procedures for applying for services loans licenses permits and so on; and/or 2) investigating and evaluating for state federal or non-governmental assistance programs or investigating compliance with such programs.

Disability Adjudicator Level 2:

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

  • Computer Skills: Uses computers software applications databases and automated systems to accomplish work.

  • Customer Service: Works with clients and customers (that is any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces including the general public individuals who work in the agency other agencies or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs provide information or assistance resolve their problems or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

  • Disability Services: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and practices used in the planning design and/or implementation of programs that provide services to children and adults who experience disabilities and their families.

  • Reading Comprehension: Understands and interprets written material including technical material rules regulations instructions reports charts graphs or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.

  • Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles methods and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design collection analysis and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Successful completion of the training plan as a Disability Adjudicator 1 with the State of Alaska or similar with other States providing adjudication of claims.

OR Substitution:

Any combination of postsecondary education from an accredited college and/or experience that involved professional experience researching analyzing or applying policies and/or regulations in such areas as eligibility for or provision of benefits services loans licenses permits or similar programs and communicating the results orally and in writing under the Social Security Act.

Disability Adjudicator Level 3:

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

  • Decision Making: Makes sound well-informed and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action even in uncertain situations to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.

  • Disability Services: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and practices used in the planning design and/or implementation of programs that provide services to children and adults who experience disabilities and their families.

  • Reading Comprehension: Understands and interprets written material including technical material rules regulations instructions reports charts graphs or tables; applies what is learned from written material to specific situations.

  • Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles methods and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design collection analysis and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.

  • Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform ones job; works with understands and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:


Successful completion of the professional development training plan as a Disability Adjudicator 2 with the State of Alaska.

OR Substitution:


Any combination of postsecondary education from an accredited college and/or experience that involved progressively responsible professional level experience in interviewing investigating claims examining or related experience which involves securing reviewing and/or verifying information needed to determine eligibility for medical benefits under the Social Security Act. The experience must have involved the analysis explanation application or interpretation of Social Security law regulations rulings policies procedures precedents or similar criteria.

The State of Alaska (SOA) uses four levels of proficiency to measure and describe an applicants level of competence in applying certain behaviors knowledge skills and abilities to accomplish a specific task. The four proficiency levels are: Mastery Fluency Literacy and Discovery. You will need to rate your proficiency level for each competency listed in the supplemental questions.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED
This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidates credibly possessed and proven competencies. If hired at the lower level you will be promoted to the higher level after successfully completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work.

SPECIAL NOTICE
This position requires a federal background check and subsequent federal security clearance in accordance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive-12 on Standard Form 86 that includes fingerprinting in-depth work and residence location histories.
