Social Media Specialist
Job Summary

Reports To: External Relations Administrator
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12-months per year / Salaried Exempt
Salary Schedule: S04/92A Starts at $61292.81. Salary credit may be awarded for applicable experience.
Position Purpose:
This position is key to telling district stories across social media channels in partnership with multimedia specialists and other staff on the District Communications team. The leader is responsible for social media strategy planning content creation and evaluation tailoring content to target audiences and platform best practices to support broader communication objectives for the students staff families and community we serve.
The individual in this position will also assist with preparing managing and deploying internal and external communications for the school district or a specific school including issue and crisis communications.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Research plan and manage the districts social media strategy in partnership with fellow staff storytellers and the external relations administrator.
- Create curate and manage all published content (images video written audio/podcast and/or more) on social media.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to collaborate on ideas to ensure the social media strategy is executed.
- Monitor listen and respond to stakeholders per social media policy.
- Monitor the latest trends on social media to improve strategy and provide recommendations on how to best leverage new tools and services.
- Compile data across several social media platforms and create weekly monthly and annual reports including analysis for insights and future strategy development.
- Train other staff on social media guidelines policy and best practices.
- Increase awareness of positive district news by writing stories and features for various platforms.
- Assist with special functions activities and events to promote the district staff and students.
- Develop photo and video content for use across district communication channels.
- Assist with crisis communication support to families and schools.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in public relations journalism communications or a related field.
- Three years or more of professional experience in communications public relations journalism or a related field.
- Understanding of social media management and best practices on district-approved social media sites (Facebook X Instagram YouTube LinkedIn and NextDoor).
- Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication and public relations skills.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite tools such as Photoshop Premiere InDesign and Illustrator.
Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Equipment:This position may require the ability to use basic office equipment including computers copiers and scanners. Must always comply with OPSs guidelines for equipment use.
Travel:Frequent travel within the District between schools and central offices will be required. Occasional travel outside of Omaha or Nebraska will also be required.

Interrelations:
- Contact with district personnel customers and vendors.
- Will work under the direct supervision of the department supervisor to complete day-to-day tasks.

- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- For schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours on each designated workday unless the employee has approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
- Regular attendance is important.
Terms of Employment
This position is treated as a full-time non-exempt classified position. The terms of your employment will be governed by applicable state laws regulating employment or teaching in a Nebraska public school and Board of Education policies as those laws and policies may change from time to time and the Teacher Contract. If your position is represented by a collective bargaining representative then your employment will also be governed by a negotiated agreement between OPS and that collective bargaining representative.
Terms of employment are contingent upon:

- Successful completion of a tuberculosis skin test (if required by federal law for your position).
