Special Information:

This position may be eligible for a statutory base pay increase of $1.00 an hour effective July 1 2026.

Identity of applicants who become finalists may be released to the public if the Department deems it necessary. Employees who exceed 1040 hours in a calendar year are also provided health dental and life insurance. Other benefits include retirement paid vacation sick and holidays. Telework:

You must reside in Montana (or move to Montana) to accept this this position you will be afforded the opportunity to telework however there will be required weekly in-office day(s) in Helena. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.

Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks is seeking an organized motivated and energetic person who loves hunting and the outdoors to coordinate our key recruitment retention and reactivation (R3) program - Roosters for Recruitment (R4R). This is a pheasant stocking program that is done in coordination with the Montana Correctional Enterprises and stocks pheasants during the fall on lands across the state to encourage participation from youth and new hunters.
This role is an exciting opportunity to manage a program that puts smiles on faces and helps to ensure hunting continues to be a vibrant part of the Montana lifestyle.
This job is located in Montanas capital city of Helena which is a dynamic community of professionals who are passionate about the outdoors. It is centrally located in Montana only a few hours away from Glacier National Park Yellowstone National Park and some of the best state parks in Montana. Additionally hunters and anglers will find some of the best opportunities in the state within 90 minutes of town.

Job Duties:

The R4R Coordinator is responsible for planning coordinating and implementing Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks pheasant stocking program including yearround scheduling partner coordination logistics reporting and evaluation. The position serves as the primary liaison between FWP staff Montana Correctional Enterprises (MCE) partner organizations external vendors landowners and the public for all aspects of pheasant production transport and release.
The R4R Program was created by the 2021 Montana Legislature to promote hunting among youth and non-hunters in Montana. The program works with partners to raise pheasants and identify appropriate land for releasing pheasants during the fall hunting season. Staff also work with partners to engage youth hunters to take advantage of stocked pheasants to introduce them to upland game bird hunting and enjoying the outdoors.
The position requires a high level of organization an interest in engaging partners and promoting hunting and a passion for connecting people with pheasant hunting opportunities in Montana.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (Behaviors):

Strong organizational and projectmanagement skills including managing overlapping deadlines throughout an annual cycle.

Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to interpret and summarize program data budgets and survey results.

Proficiency with standard office software; familiarity with survey tools and basic mapping preferred.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team often under tight seasonal timelines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

Minimum Qualifications

Experience coordinating complex seasonal fieldbased programs involving multiple partners logistics and deadlines.

Experience with data collection and reporting (e.g. surveys license data or similar).

Experience working with fleet/vehicles scheduling or field logistics or equivalent operational coordination.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with wildlife natural resources or outdoor recreation programs.

Familiarity with GIS tools and processes or experience working with GIS staff to update maps.

Experience managing or supporting grants contracts or MOUs.

Experience coordinating with correctional industries state agencies or similar institutional partners.
