Primary Purpose:
Plan implement and evaluate a comprehensive program of guidance to school assigned including advising students. Provide a proactive developmental guidance program to encourage all students to maximize personal growth and development.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelors degree
Valid teacher certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of advisory procedures student appraisal and career development
- Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of career and occupational resources trends and opportunities.
- Knowledge college entrance requirements and procedures.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Experience:
Teaching experience preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Guidance
- Teach school developmental guidance curriculum to students.
- Help teachers incorporate guidance-related information into existing curriculum.
- Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness.
- Advise individuals and small groups.
Consultation
- Consult parents teachers administrators and other relevant people to enhance their work with students.
- Work with school personnel and school district residents to obtain resources for students.
- Use an effective referral process to help students and others use special programs and services.
Assessment
- Participate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
- Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately.
Program Management
- Planadvisory programs to ensure that they meet identified needs.
- Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation ofadvisory program and make changes based on findings.
- Provide career and college entrance information and assistance to students teachers parents and counselors; coordinate day-to-day operations and schedule activities programs and speakers.
- Prepare career education and instructional materials for use by teachers and students; assist students in locating and using college/career information as needed for research assignments and post-high school planning.
Policy Reports and Law
- Comply with policies established by federal and state law State Board of Education rule and board policy.
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues students and parents.
- Compile maintain and file all required physical and computerized reports records and other documents.
Professional Growth and Other
- Model behavior that is professional ethical and responsible.
- Participate in professional development to improve skills related to job assignment
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise assigned advisory aide(s) and clerical employee(s).
