About Us

Headspace is Australias National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12- to 25-year-olds. Headspace has over 150 centres nationwide and has a no wrong door approach for those seeking assistance. Headspace Kununurra located on Miriwoong country is a place where young people can get free and confidential support for their mental health access non-judgemental information and supportaround drugs or alcohol and access to a GP for physical health needs (includingsexual health). Headspace also helps with vocational and study needs.

Wunan Health is the only private GP Practice in the East Kimberley region. We provide a range of high-quality health care services to the residents of Kununurra Wyndham Halls Creek and extended communities. Our dedicated team comprises of General Practitioners/Registrars Registered Nurses Aboriginal Health Practitioners and our experienced Medical Administration team. Wunan Health is the lead agency of headspace Kununurra.

About the Role

Engaging in Therapy: The main component of this role is to provide evidence-based therapy to young people in the Kununurra community. This is primarily through one-on-one sessions in the headspace centre but the clinician also has the flexibility to engage in sessions outsideof a clinical setting. Can engage in group sessions with young people if this falls within the clinical scope and expertise of the clinician.

Cultural Clinical Governance: The clinician will be actively engaged in providing a cultural safe service for Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander and all cultural and linguistically diverse (CALD) people in Kununurra. This will involve regular clinical cultural yarning sessions and completing in house and external cultural training sessions.

Case management: The clinician is required to manage their own caseload and engage in follow-up with young people family and external agencies if deemed appropriate. Complete regular file reviews of young people throughout their engagement with headspace Kununurra

Being part of a multi-disciplinary clinical team: Engage in regular clinical meetings and case reviews with the headspace Kununurra clinical team.

Clinical documentation: Demonstrate exemplarily note taking and objective documentation for clinical case notes.

Liaising with external stakeholders: Communicate with external agencies in a clear and concise manner whilst operating under ethical and legal requirements (i.e. privacy and confidentiality).

Service Development: Contributing to the development of innovative evidence-based and culturally safe clinical services.

Clinical Governance: Supporting the Centre Manager and Clinical Lead with implementing monitoring and reviewing clinical governance frameworks to maintain service quality and safety.

Community Engagement: Collaborating with local communities and stakeholders to enhance service delivery and address community needs. Participating in community engagement events both run by headspace and external agencies to further strengthen headspace Kununurras commitment to the community and its needs.

Job Requirements Essential:

Tertiary Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Psychology Social Work Mental Health Nursing Occupational Therapy YouthServices or another allied health discipline or relevant experience.

Professional Registration: Registered with an appropriate regulation agency such as the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).

Experience: Demonstrated experience in providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions in a clinical setting. Additionally it is preferred but not required to have experience working with young people aged 12-25.

Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in mental health service delivery and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary addition developed sound communication and interpersonal skills.
