QUALIFICATIONS:
- Licensurein Special Educationfrom theMassachusettsDepartment of Education and Academic Administrator Supervisor/Director
- SEI Endorsement
- Bachelors Degree andmastersdegreefrom an accredited college or university
- A minimum of five years successful teaching experience of which at least two years shall have been inSpecial Education.
- Education training and experience shouldcontainevidence of leadership qualities.
- Ability to work effectively with teachers support staff and parents and advocate for childrenin order toeffectively problem solve
- Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills and ability to work with all stakeholders
- Experience in urban district/setting preferred
- Ability to meet the expectations of the Massachusetts Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice
JOB GOAL:To provide leadershipcoordinationand innovation in assigned curricularareaso that each student may derive maximum benefit from the continuing pursuit of the subject involved.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organizes and implements theSpecialEducationProgramforgrades68.
- Establishes department curriculumobjectivesand develops a plan for the implementation and evaluation of theseobjectivesfor grades6 8.
- Assistsin the screening training and assignments of department personnel.
- Assistsdepartment teachers in the handling of day-to-day problems of instruction andisa resource person for department teachers on curriculum and instructional consensus.
- Responsible for the ordering inventorying and distributing of all departmental instructional materials.
- Evaluates departmental personnelin accordance withSchool Committee policy.
- Makes recommendations to thePrincipalregardingdepartment personnel and advises thePrincipalon the departments budgetary needs.
- Makesclassroom visitation of department personnel when necessary and provides follow-up consultation.
- Reviews teacher lesson plans.
- Develops andmaintainsa department library.
- Provides orientation and in-service training programs for department personnel.
- Attends relevant school district and professional meetings.
- Meets with other department heads to promote interdisciplinary programs.
- Assistsinidentifyingandutilizingcommunity resources for the department program.
- Implements an ongoing program of curriculum evaluation.
- Provides the Principal or his/her designee with course outlines for all department offerings.
- Is responsible fortheSpecialEducationDepartmentprograms.
- Assists the Principals in interpreting grading policies promotional policies and the districts instructional program to parents and the community.
- Devisesexperimental programs designed to improve the curriculum and instructional techniques.
- Keeps informed on educational innovations and trends as they relate to department concerns.
- Collaborates with teachers on improving their repertoire of differentiated instructional assessment strategies.
- Submits required reports and other information as requested by thePrincipaland/or the Deputy Superintendents ina timelyandaccuratefashion.
- Assumes any other duties appropriately related to thisparticular classificationas assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.
REPORTS TO: Principaland Deputy Superintendent.
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluatedbythePrincipal.
DAYS: 190 Days;additionaldays asdeterminedby thePrincipalinAccordance with the Lynn School Administrators Association
SALARY: $109019
