Position Description

Homebound Teacher-(Part-Time) 2026-2027 School Year

Minimum Qualifications and Training:

  • Requires a Bachelors degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate
  • Valid teaching license with certification in: Special Education (SPED) K11 and General Education K12
  • Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated
  • Experience working with diverse learners including students with disabilities
  • Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position
  • Any other qualifications that the Superintendent deems appropriate and acceptable

Goals: The Homebound Teacher provides individualized instructional services to students who are unable to attend school due to medical or other qualifying conditions. This position ensures continuity of learning by delivering standards-based instruction aligned with district curriculum and supporting both general education and special education needs in a home or alternative setting.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized instruction to homebound students in accordance with district guidelines and student needs
  • Attends IEP/504 meetings when homebound services are discussed and/or provided
  • Deliver instruction aligned to grade-level standards and IEP/504 goals (when applicable)
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure continuity of instruction and pacing
  • Adapt lessons materials and assessments to meet student needs
  • Maintain accurate records of instructional time student progress and communication logs
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians school staff and administration regarding student progress
  • Ensure compliance with all district state and federal regulations including those related to special education services
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as outlined in student plans (IEP/504)
  • Support students in completing assignments and preparing for assessments
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
  • Creates an educational environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and needs of the students; prepares instructional materials for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation to supervisor/administrator upon request
  • Establishes a standard of classroom behavior; maintains classroom management in and outside of the school
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on an established timetable and provides written and oral progress reports to parents/guardians administrators and selected staff; administers tests and assessments
  • Instructs students by using educational strategies and techniques to improve sensory-motor and perceptual-motor development perception memory language communication skills cognition social and emotional development
  • Motivates students and provides consistent reinforcement of learning skills and provides continuous assessment and feedback to students for all learning activities
  • Facilitate and ensure a smooth transition and return to the school of attendance when the student is determined/able to return
  • Administers state-standardize tests to students who are homebound at the time of state testing. Maintains student confidentiality
  • Assists administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student activities and conduct
  • Sponsors student activities/clubs/teams/organization and tutor students as requested
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or directed

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises students as designated on caseload while providing services in the home or alternative environment.

Working Conditions: Exposure to the following situations may range from remote to frequent based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.

  • Services are provided in the students home or another approved location
  • Flexible part-time schedule based on student needs and district assignment
  • Travel may be required
  • Consistent and prompt attendance is imperative for this role

  • Ability to travel to assigned locations
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.

This is a part-time teaching position. The teacher works a schedule based on the needs of homebound students.
