Child Services Worker (Internal Human Services Public Health applicants only)

The Child Protection division of Health and Human Services is seeking to hire a Social Worker or Senior Social Worker who will work as a Child Services Worker (CSW) within a Child Protection Ongoing Case Management unit. CSWs work to ensure that the physical educational medical cultural mental health and general well-being needs of children in out-of-home placement are met while the family is receiving child protection services. A particular emphasis will be on securing out-of-home placements for children who are ordered into out-of-home placement and are in need of foster care and continuous placement. Additional expectations include working effectively in teams with other social workers foster parents therapists Guardians ad Litem medical personnel and other professionals.

Salary will be based upon qualifications:
Social Worker $63635.45 - $96126.92 Annually
Social Worker Senior $70171.58 - $105993.42 Annually

Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at various designated Child Protection satellite offices in the community and remote as job duties require. Work hours will typically be Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. but flexibility will be required to work outside of these hours with occasional evenings weekends and holidays. While this position is designated as hybrid based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In the Social Worker position you will:

• Team with Child Protection Social Workers (CPSW) to support placements and to address administrative tasks.
• Interview assess and perform case evaluations of clients to determine individual needs and establish appropriate treatment/service goals.
• Attend court hearings and discussions with County Attorneys and CPSWs regarding case updates.
• Make field visits to clients homes in collaboration with the CPSW.
• Provide support to children/youth on assigned cases and ensure their physical educational medical cultural and mental health needs are met while they are in out-of- home placement care and provide transportation when needed.
• Design and partner with CPSWs on Out-of-Home Placement Plans addressing the specific needs of the child or youth.
• Make referrals to appropriate community resources and arrange for services while interpreting social and emotional factors to others involved in treatment of children/youth.

• For hire as a Social Worker:
  • One of the following:
    • Bachelors degree or higher in social work psychology sociology human services or equivalent field.
    • Licensure as a Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A valid drivers license the ability to obtain a Hennepin County drivers permit and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients and attend meetings.
• For hire as a Social Worker Senior:
  • One of the following:
    • Masters degree or higher in social work or close related field with course work emphasis in areas such as social work methods human growth and behavior and principles of social welfare.
    • Bachelors degree or higher in social work psychology sociology or human services and18 semester (27 quarter) credits of graduate work in the above areas and three years of full-time supervised experience as a social worker.
    • Licensure as a Graduate Social Worker by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A valid drivers license the ability to obtain a Hennepin County drivers permit and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients and attend meetings.

• Experience:
  • Providing professional social work services such as case management.
  • Working directly with clients and identifying and appropriately responding to their needs.
  • Working with diverse and underserved populations of different backgrounds and cultures.
• Recognition and respect for culture differences and culturally appropriate services.
• Knowledge of county and community resources.
• Ability to function well in unpredictable and challenging situations calling for sensitivity flexibility resourcefulness and independent judgment.
