Long Term Substitute School Counselor

LTS rate $300 per 7.25 hr day.

• Licensed School Counselorto helpstudents to thrive and succeed in high school as well as support plans for post secondary options.

• Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an endorsement as aSchool Counselor at the high school grade level.
• Knowledge and practices as it relates to supporting (all) students ability to learn

• Principal and School CounselingDepartment Chair of the building assigned

• Monitor the overall progress of the student in educational development career planning and personal relationships through the implementation of an established guidance program and initiate adjustments in program and service when needed.
• Be accessible and initiate communication with students parents referral agencies and appropriate school personnel.
• Provide information on curriculum and graduation requirements while assisting students with enrollment and the development of a four-year plan.
• Provide general information about post-secondary opportunities.
• Counsel students as they face academic personal or social problems that are impeding their educational progress and assist them to achieve success.
• Provide secondary school information and recommendations as needed.
• Administer tests and interpret results for students parents and school personnel.
• Assist students in the development of appropriate career plans.
• Collect prepare maintain and assist in the effective use of student records.
• Orient freshmen and transfer students to school.
• Make referrals to appropriate in-school personnel and outside agencies. (e.g. social worker psychologist family services).
• Provide crisis intervention for students when possible.
• Maintains the highest level of ethical and professional demeanor with students and staff consistent with the Sexual Harassment Equal Educational Opportunity Ethics Use of Electronic Media and other appropriate policies of the District.
• Demonstrates effective communication skills when interacting with immediate supervisors parents students peers and other school related reference groups.
• Maintains and submits upon request accurate complete and correct records as required by law District policy and administrative regulation.
• Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative regulations and Board policy.
• Provides appropriate supervision and takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
• Does not administer corporal punishment or touch students.
• May perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and/or building Principal

• Ability to read analyze and interpret documents such as correspondence surveys and electronic media.
• Ability to write professional communications.
• Ability to present information effectively and to respond to questions from individuals and groups
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and community members
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in written form
• Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of basic mathematics
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
• Ability to maintain current job skills as directed especially in technology-related activities
• Ability to perform essential duties with an awareness of school district requirements and School Board policies

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust addition the ability to withstand long-term use of video display terminals (VDT) is required.
• The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds such as reference books.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
• The pace of work tasks would be considered as fast.
• Work is usually conducted at one job site however on occasion this employee will be required to attend meetings conferences or workshops and events at other sites as assigned.
