CGI Italy helps scientists and entrepreneurs process Earth Observation data using cutting-edge technologies. We extract value from satellite data across domains like climate change agriculture maritime and infrastructure monitoring.
We are looking for an Earth Observation Applications Engineer with a solid background in remote sensing physics and data processing. You will join a team where Data Science is already a core strength bringing your specific expertise in EO signals and imagery to bridge the gap between raw data and actionable intelligence.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Your Future Duties and Responsibilities
. EO Application Design: Create innovative applications leveraging multi-mission EO data (Copernicus Landsat VHR Hyperspectral) to support environmental geoscience and industrial monitoring.
. End-to-End Analysis: Perform the full lifecycle of EO data analysis from requirements gathering and data procurement to processing and result presentation.
. Operational Transition: Transform prototype algorithms and scientific scripts into operational scalable EO data processing software.
. Satellite Data Integration: Integrate multi-source satellite data (Optical and Radar) with in-situ and ancillary datasets.
. Cloud & Big Data: Utilize cloud platforms (DIAS AWS Azure) to manage and process large-scale EO datasets efficiently.
. Collaboration: Work closely with our Data Scientists and Project Managers to ensure the physical consistency of satellite-derived products and timely delivery.
. Scientific Community Engagement: Attend workshops and working groups to present activities and share results within the international EO community (ESA Copernicus).

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
. Intermediate Experience: At least 3 years of hands-on experience specifically in Earth Observation and Remote Sensing.
. EO Expertise: Deep understanding of remote sensing principles (atmospheric corrections thematic classification change detection).
. Technical Toolkit: Proficiency with standard EO processing toolboxes (e.g. SNAP GDAL QGIS Orfeo ToolBox).
. Programming: Strong Python skills for geospatial data manipulation (Rasterio Xarray Fiona Shapely).
. Education: Degree in a scientific discipline (Physics Engineering Geosciences Mathematics or similar).
. Communication: Fluent spoken and written English.
Assets (The Nice-to-Haves)
. SAR Background: Proven experience in processing and analyzing Synthetic Aperture Radar data is a significant advantage.
. Advanced Degree: A PhD in Remote Sensing or a related field.
. Data Science & ML: Experience with Machine Learning/Deep Learning frameworks (Scikit-learn PyTorch TensorFlow) applied to EO data.
. DevOps Tools: Experience with Git Docker containers and Microservice architectures.
