Position Overview
The Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN) is responsible for providing high-quality patient-centered nursing care within a fast-paced acute care hospital setting. The RN will perform comprehensive patient assessments develop and implement individualized care plans monitor patient progress and collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support positive patient outcomes. This role cares for adult patients with medical surgical cardiac neurologic orthopedic and trauma-related conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Nursing Care
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments and ongoing patient evaluations
- Develop implement and update individualized patient care plans
- Provide direct bedside care for adult Med-Surg patients
- Monitor patients with medical surgical cardiac neurologic orthopedic nephrology and trauma-related conditions
- Assist with post-surgical recovery and higher-acuity Med/Surg patient care
- Utilize patient monitoring equipment and recognize changes in patient condition
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Patient Education & Support
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and discharge instructions
- Provide compassionate emotional support throughout hospitalization
- Promote patient safety and quality patient-centered care
- Encourage patient and family participation in care planning
Team Collaboration & Operations
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
- Supervise non-licensed nursing staff within RN scope of practice
- Follow hospital policies infection prevention standards and patient safety initiatives
- Participate in quality improvement and professional development activities
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of Acute Care RN experience required
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program:
- Active RN License or Compact RN License required
- Current BLS Certification required upon hire
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous Medical-Surgical nursing experience preferred
- Experience with trauma neuro orthopedic or nephrology patients preferred
- Strong communication teamwork and critical thinking skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced acute care environment
