Job Summary

Primary Function

Wor-Wic Community College is accepting applications for a full-time Academic Advisor. This position provides individual academic career and personal support to a cohort of students as they progress through Fins to the Finish Line (FFL) a comprehensive college completion program designed to improve graduation rates by addressing the financial academic and personal challenges that impact student success.

*The FFL program is modeled off the highly successful CUNY Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) initiative.

Essential Duties

The following list is not intended as nor should it be construed as exhaustive of all responsibilities skills or working conditions associated with this position.

  • Provides holistic academic advising services for a cohort of students in the Fins to the Finish Line program at various stages of their academic journey by meeting with students in-person by phone and/or virtually maintaining consistent communication monitoring progress and coordinating timely and targeted interventions for students who are not on track or have demonstrated challenges in meeting success benchmarks; and maintains accurate and timely documentation of student interactions progress notes and outcomes in appropriate systems and recommend referrals to college resources as needed
  • Assists and participates in Fins to the Finish Line recruitment onboarding and transition programs to help new students acclimate to the college environment
  • Helps program participants set educational and career goals creates and monitors academic success and transfer plans to achieve those goals and provides appropriate student intervention when necessary
  • Utilizes the Colleges advising and student planning software to comply with the CUNY-ASAP replication standards and college guidelines review student progress and track established student success benchmarks/metrics and conduct timely reviews to monitor and support students evolving goals and needs; and develops a thorough understanding of these technologies and engages the campus on how to best utilize systems to provide high-quality service to advisees
  • Conducts and supports special events group workshops student engagement opportunities academic skills success seminars college resources and other success topics through collaborative programming with internal and external partners; travels with participants to off-campus academic and cultural activities
  • Possesses and maintains a thorough understanding of all departmental and institutional policies and procedures needed to accurately advise students including but not limited to comprehensive knowledge of the learning pathways financial aid policies transfer requirements academic curriculum career/program assessment payment policies student success resources and any other information that may benefit students during the advising process; remains current of ASAP program processes procedures and requirements through participation in continuous conferences and training sessions
  • Participates in college-wide activities such as but not limited to commencement orientation registration outreach strategic planning and retention initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree
  • Two years of administrative or teaching experience
  • Strong computer organizational human relations and verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and understand their unique needs
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a masters degree; experience working as an academic advisor in post-secondary education; and bilingual English/Creole skills

Supplemental Information

This full-time administrative position is grant-funded and includes an excellent fringe benefits package. The starting salary will likely range from $60200 to $61359 depending on qualifications and experience. This position is required to work evening and weekend hours on a rotating basis.
