Job Summary

Position Summary

The Opportunity: Skagit Valley College (SVC) is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time tenure-track faculty position in Multimedia & Interactive Technology (MIT). The successful candidate will demonstrate exceptional teaching skills including those needed to teach effectively in an online or hybrid environment a passion for the subject matter enthusiasm about technological and pedagogical innovation and a focus on high-impact practices that reach every student.

Candidates should be able and excited to teach a wide variety of courses in the department with particular emphasis on video content creation and motion graphics AI tools for digital media digital and social media marketing content management systems user experience (UX) design and marketing and multimedia analytics.

In addition to teaching the successful candidate may also be considered for leadership opportunities within the department including the potential to serve as Department Chair.

Faculty at SVC respect and work effectively with students colleagues staff and others in a campus climate that promotes innovative teaching an engaging learning environment and a strong focus on improving success rates for all students.

SVC Workforce Education Faculty typically teach an equivalent of 15- 18 instructional units per quarter (3 classes) and College service. This position is expected to begin in FallQuarter September 2026.

This position is based primarily at the Mount Vernon Campus; however Instructors may be called upon to teach at the Whidbey Island Campus located in Oak Harbor.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in MIT courses including video content and motion graphics AI for digital media digital and social media marketing content management systems UX design and analytics for multimedia and marketing;
  • Teach online hybrid or classroom-based classes as required:
    • Most MIT courses are currently online asynchronous;
    • Some classes have limited enrollment which may require instructors to cluster closely related courses;
  • Conduct ongoing development assessment and revision of curriculum that reflects innovative pedagogy and advances in MIT particularly in generative AI;
  • Work collaboratively with SVC faculty from other fields;
  • Create a positive learning environment for students using multiple teaching methods to support and enhance student success;
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to increase enrollment and support student retention in the program;
  • Develop monitor and assess student learning outcomes and fully participate in the colleges program review process;
  • Develop assess and analyze program outcomes for the purpose of program improvement and enhanced student learning;
  • Conduct program outreach by leading information sessions for prospective students assisting with marketing and recruitment activities and coordinating with high school teachers and administrators;
  • Plan facilitate and participate in advisory committee meetings;
  • Participate in unit department and other College activities including College governance;
  • Contribute to departmental leadership as needed with the potential to serve as department chair;
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Digital Media Marketing Web Design Computer Science Digital Arts Digital Photography Digital Videography Fine Arts UX Design Management Information Systems Application Development or other related field;
  • Experience training or teaching adults;
  • Professional experience in digital media digital marketing web design UX design web development or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in digital media digital marketing web design UX design web development or a closely related field
  • Masters Degree in a field related to Digital Media Marketing Digital Arts UX Design etc.;
  • Experience teaching online using an industry-standard learning management system such as Canvas;
  • Demonstrated experience using AI tools in professional and/or instructional contexts;
  • Experience teaching any courses offered within the MIT department including video content and motion graphics AI for digital media digital media marketing and social media marketing content management systems UX design or data analytics;
  • Three (3) or more years of teaching experience in a higher education setting.
