10-MONTH TENURE TRACK POSITION

COMPENSATION:
Initial salary placement ranges from $67886 to $106308 based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142425.

Representative Duties

Provide professional academic/vocational personal and disability-related counseling.

Verify studenteligibilityfor ACCESSprogramsandservices. Identify functional limitations.

Determine reasonable accommodations.

Develop individual education plans.

Provide and document appropriate services.

Refer students to other appropriate services.

Work with appropriate personnel in meetings the federal requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act 504 regulations Title 5 guidelines governing the implementation of AB77 and all other laws that pertain to access for persons with disabilities in higher education.

Maintain liaison with appropriate community agencies.

Participate in program curriculum and staff development activities and serve on area and college-wide committees as necessary to support and enrich the instructional program and service areas.

Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.

Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.

Provide critical feedback on all assignments.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The minimum qualifications for service as a community college counselor of students with disabilities shall be satisfied by meeting one of the following requirements;

Masters degree in rehabilitation counseling ORMasters degree in counseling guidance counseling student personnel clinical or counseling psychology education counseling social work career development marriage and family therapy marriage family and child counseling or a Bachelors degree in marriage and family therapy or in marriage family and child counseling and possession of a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT); and either fifteen or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically related to people with disabilities or completion of six semester units or the equivalent of a graduate-level counseling practicum or counseling field work courses in a postsecondary Disabled Students Programs and Services (ACCESS) Program or in a program dealing predominantly or exclusively with people with disabilities or two years of fulltime experience or the equivalent in one or more of the following;

  • (A) Counseling for students with disabilities; or
  • (B) Counseling in industry government public agencies military or private social welfare organizations in which the responsibilities of the position were predominantly or exclusively for persons with disabilities or the equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
LD (Learning Disability) Certification and/or experience in administering and interpreting LD tests.

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Office classroom lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day weekend and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations.

Knowledge and Abilities

KNOWLEDGEOF:

  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regulations and guidance related to access and disability services in higher education including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and applicable Title 5 ACCESS regulations and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning.
  • Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including online hybrid remote HyFlex and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.
  • Knowledge of developing course syllabi.
  • Knowledge of Canvas.
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials certifications and regulatory standards current when applicable.
  • Knowledge of disability categories and functional limitations and the interactive process used to determine appropriate academic adjustments auxiliary aids/services and reasonable accommodations.
  • Knowledge of ACCESS eligibility documentation standards intake and interactive interview practices.
  • Knowledge of counseling theories and practices applicable to academic vocational/career personal and disability-related counseling for community college students.
  • Knowledge of learning disability assessment principles; ability to interpret learning disability testing instruments when assigned and qualified.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology alternate media and common classroom/testing accommodations including how accommodations are implemented in in-person and online learning environments.
  • Knowledge of community and campus resources (e.g. mental health social services vocational rehabilitation independent living and community agencies) and effective referral practices.
  • Knowledge of equity-minded trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices that support students from diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds.

ABILITY TO:

  • Ability to collaborate with others on projects for the department/college/community.
  • Ability to balance counseling schedule teaching schedule mentor students and work on projects for the department/college/community.
  • Ability to develop and provide instructional curriculum that demonstrates innovation and full inclusion with specific attention to diversity.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility while operating effectively in an environment of change.
  • Ability to work with others etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students faculty staff administrators and community partners using clear respectful and accessible language (oral and written).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in accordance with FERPAHIPPA ethical counseling standards and district/college policies and procedures.
  • Ability to collaborate with instructional and support areas to facilitate access provide consultation on accommodations and support compliance with disability-related requirements.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation prepare reports as required and use counseling/ACCESS information systems and standard office software.
  • Ability to organize and manage a counseling caseload prioritize competing demands meet deadlines and follow through on student service plans and program responsibilities.
  • Ability to develop and deliver workshops presentations orientations and/or instructional content related to ACCESS services academic success and student support strategies as assigned.
  • Ability to participate in program planning curriculum and staff development.
