The Position
Class Code 29318: Volunteer Program Coordinator
Transfer job postings are for County of Sacramento employees only.
In order to be qualified for a transfer:
1. You must meet the Minimum Qualifications of the new job.
2. The difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
There are three different transfer types that you may qualify for: interdepartmental transfer interclass transfer and voluntary demotion. These different transfer types are defined as:- Interdepartmental transfer - a transfer in the same class from one County department to another.
- Interclass transfer - a transfer from one job class to a different job addition the difference between the top salary steps (the highest pay rate within the range of pay) of your current job class and the job class that you intend to transfer into must be less than 5%.
- Voluntary demotion - a transfer into a job class that pays less than 95% of your current class salary.
There is an additional 3.35% Management Differential which is added to the posted salary for this class.
The Volunteer Program Coordinator is responsible for managing volunteer programs grant writing budget development program reporting and directing the work of staff and volunteers within an assigned program area.Examples of Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of
- Principles and practices of volunteer program planning implementation and administration
- Principles and practices of grant writing budget development and controls and program evaluation
- Principles and practices of business correspondence and report writing
- Public Social Services Programs resources available in the community
- Community demographics ethnic and cultural groups etc.
- Media resources available for publicity campaigns and how to effectively use them
- Fundraising program development and implementation
- Plan volunteer programs and projects
- Plan schedule and evaluate the work of both paid and volunteer staff
- Plan organize evaluate and direct a volunteer program
- Interview select and place volunteers according to program needs previous experience interest skills and time availability to provide useful service
- Research and write grant proposals; manage grant funding
- Evaluate program effectiveness
- Develop goals and objectives
- Establish rapport with and maintain cooperative productive working relationships with staff volunteers community groups the media and others contacted in the course of work
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Employment Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Either: A Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral science public administration business administration human services social work psychology public health health sciences or a field closely related to the intent of the class.ANDThree years professional experience supervising coordinating planning developing and evaluating volunteer or human service programs in a public nonprofit or private agency.
Or: Three years experience in the class of Volunteer Program Specialist within Sacramento County service.
Note: The word experience referenced in the minimum qualifications means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

General Qualifications
License Requirement:
Possession of a valid California Drivers License Class C or higher is required prior to appointment to this class. Failure to maintain a valid license may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rule 11.4. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Criminal History and Background Checks:
The County may access criminal history information on candidates who have accepted a conditional offer of appointment to this class consistent with the provisions of Board of Supervisors Resolution No. 82-602 Personnel Policies and Procedure B-5 and applicable federal and state law. The County shall not consider for employment any candidate who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor that relates to or impacts the candidates ability to perform the job duties of this class unless it is determined that mitigating circumstances exist. For purposes of accessing criminal history information the candidate will be fingerprinted. A subsequent arrest notification may be obtained.
The County may also conduct a background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class. The background check may include personal and professional reference checks credit history checks Social Security Number verification professional license/registration verification military service information and driving history.
Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointing authority in the selection obtaining such information the County will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.Application and Testing Information
