Procurement Director

Location: Warsaw Poland
Hybrid model of work: 3 days in office 2 remote per week

Reporting to the Senior Director for Infrastructure the Procurement Director Energy and Utilities leads the development and execution of the UK energy sourcing strategy securing reliable compliant and cost-effective electricity gas and ancillary energy services across a complex portfolio.

The role combines strategic procurement deep energy market insight and cross-functional collaboration to deliver commercial value manage risk and accelerate progress towards ambitious decarbonisation goals. Accountabilities

• Define and continuously refine the UK energy category strategy for electricity natural gas and related services including capacity balancing green products REGO/GoO and bio-methane certificates.
• Lead end-to-end sourcing events from market engagement and RFP design through to negotiation and award of supply agreements ensuring optimal contract structures (flex vs fixed pass-through components index linkage) that align with business objectives.
• Design implement and operate an energy risk management framework aligned with corporate risk appetite including governance limits and decision rights.
• Implement hedging strategies across power and gas portfolios handle open positions against budget and report mark-to-market exposure VaR and compliance with risk limits.
• Continuously monitor UK and European energy markets (power gas carbon Guarantees of Origin capacity network charges) to identify risks and opportunities.
• Produce clear insights on price drivers regulatory changes (Ofgem National Grid ESO/NGN/NGG BEIS/DESNZ) and their implications for cost risk and sustainability performance.
• Own strategic supplier relationships with utilities TPIs/brokers generators and flexibility providers driving performance against SLAs critical metrics and valuable initiatives.
• Oversee contract performance management including billing accuracy credit terms dispute resolution and continuous improvement in commercial outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with UK energy regulations and reporting obligations such as ESOS SECR P272/P302 settlements history half-hourly metering and DUoS/TNUoS/BSUoS pass-throughs.
• Work closely with Legal and Compliance to lead contract terms sanctions exposure and counterparty risk across the energy portfolio.
• Shape and deliver credible renewable procurement strategies (PPAs sleeved/virtual PPAs on-site generation REGO strategy) bio-methane/green gas solutions and demand-side flexibility to support net zero and science-based targets.
• Validate additionally and environmental claims in line with UK guidance and internal sustainability standards.
• Lead energy demand forecasting budget setting and variance analysis for the UK portfolio ensuring robust assumptions and transparent communication of drivers.
• Oversee invoice validation reconciliation of non-commodity charges and data integrity from meters and suppliers; drive continuous improvement in data quality and reporting tools.
• Identify evaluate and contract demand response storage and optimisation opportunities (DSR peak avoidance strategies Triad/BSUoS considerations DUoS red-band management) in partnership with engineering teams.
• Collaborate with Finance Sustainability Engineering Operations and Real Estate to align sourcing decisions with risk appetite budget constraints and sustainability ambitions.
• Communicate market movements risk positions and budget impacts to senior leadership through concise reports and presentations that support informed decision-making.
• Maintain robust procurement controls tender governance and audit trails across all energy sourcing activities.
• Produce periodic reports on spend risk metrics savings delivery emissions attributes and supplier performance for internal governance forums.

Essential Skills/Experience

• Degree or equivalent experience in engineering economics finance business or a related subject area; MCIPS or progress towards CIPS is preferred.
• Significant experience in UK energy procurement or trading with a track record managing electricity and gas portfolios for large multisite or industrial users. Experience with PPAs and renewable instruments is mandatory with working knowledge of 24/7 matching preferred.
• Strong grasp of UK energy market structures noncommodity cost components network charging methodologies settlement processes and metering. Familiarity with hedging instruments and risk frameworks.
• Advanced negotiation category management and supplier performance management. Proficient in quantitative analysis forecasting and scenario modelling; strong Excel/Power BI skills.
• Understanding of Ofgem frameworks DESNZ policy direction ESOS/SECR and relevant sustainability reporting standards.
• Collaborator influence problem solving resilience under volatility clear written and verbal communication and a continuous improvement approach.

Desirable Skills/Experience

• Experience structuring physical or virtual PPAs in the UK market including credit and balancing considerations.
• Knowledge of carbon accounting for purchased energy (e.g. marketbased vs. locationbased Scope 2).
• Exposure to demandside flexibility battery storage CHP or onsite renewables.
• Experience with eSourcing platforms EMS/IoT data platforms and invoice validation tools.
• Professional certifications related to energy or risk (e.g. AEE PRM/FRM fundamentals).
