- Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries and Fingerprints and Drug Screen.
- Period of Performance: Estimated start date: 15 July 2026 30 April 2031.
- Type of Employment: Full-time 40 hours per week.
- Estimated Pay: $26.40 - $31.49 per hour.
- Pay Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Holidays.
- Paid Time Off: Up to 80 hours which starts accruing on the day of hire.
- Sick Leave: Up to 56 hours which starts accruing on the day of hire.
Working Hours
The Licensed Practical Nurse will normally work Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays) between 7:30 AM and 4:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period. The Licensed Practical Nurse schedule shall not exceed 40 hours per week.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse training program.
- Must hold an active and unrestricted Licensed Practical Nurse license in the State of West Virginia.
- Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).
- A minimum of one (1) year of experience is required.
- Correctional Environment experience is preferred but not required.
- Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.

Attire
The Licensed Practical Nurse must wear appropriate professional attire (scrub uniforms are always approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the Bureau of Prisons employee will be performing. The Licensed Practical Nurse must not wear khaki or green clothing of any kind as these are the colors worn by the Adults in Custody (AIC).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Providing a range of standard patient care setting priorities and deadlines for patient care as necessary prior to notifying the supervisor via established protocols and standing orders for handling the AIC complaints during sick calls under the guidance of a supervisory clinical nurse mid-level practitioner (MLP) and physicians. 2. Providing nursing care appropriate to the level of education and training for acutely or chronically ill patients.
- Managing patient flow and triage responding to institution emergencies with the registered nurse Mid-Level Practitioners (MLPs) or physician backup screening new arrivals assessing the AIC returning from consultant visits or hospitalizations under the guidance of a supervisory clinical Nurse MLP and/or physicians.
- Providing patient education.
- Assisting with cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Administering and documenting medications accurately according to policy/procedure and physician orders.
- Recognizing and reporting adverse drug reactions and side effects.
- Providing first aid and assisting with emergency medical care to the AIC injured.
- Providing documentation in the medical record that is descriptive of patients conditions and relates to the current treatment plan.
- Responding and intervening appropriately to emergencies and submitting written documentation.
- Collecting patient information including vital signs and blood pressure checks as well as providing dressing changes administering treatments and/or medications EKGs and/or other assignments as needed. etc. These assignments require LPNs to immediately recognize and respond to serious situations sometimes before notifying an RN.
- Reporting significant abnormalities to the registered nurse MLP and or the physicians.
- Utilizing resources appropriately.
- Collaborating with and informing a registered nurse MLP physicians of any changes in the patients behavior health status or any other patient care concerns or significant changes.
- Communicating effectively with patients and health care team members.
- Performing patient care treatments and procedures being able to immediately recognize and respond to serious situations sometimes before notifying a RN of significant abnormalities.
- Performing waivers testing.
- Using the Glucometer 3 to check the patients glucose level and control.
- Performing hemoccult testing and control measures.
- Performing 12-lead EKG.
- Measuring and recording body temperature pulse respiration and blood pressure to the medical record.
- Reporting significant abnormalities to the registered nurse MLP and or the physician.
- Applying the principles of asepsis and infection control.
- Maintaining daily sick call list/call out.
