Valid Texas Educator Certificate with English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement required commensurate to assignment
Minimum of three years of teaching experience in secondary education required; including experience with secondary emergent bilingual (EB) students
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills required
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple campus stakeholders
Knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
Technological proficiency with productivity and learning management system tools
Data analysis skills
Primary Purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to deliver high-quality ESL program services to emergent bilingual (EB) students through grade-level content-based instruction. Using Content-Based Language Instruction (CBLI) the ESL teacher supports the development of English language proficiency while ensuring meaningful access to academic content. The ESL teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers to accelerate language acquisition and support student achievement in alignment with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS).
What success looks like for this role:
Program Implementation:
- Understand and implement the state and districts ESL program model in alignment with policies rules and regulations regarding EBs.
- Advocate for EBs to promote inclusive linguistically sustaining instructional environments.
- Participate in family engagement events and campus activities to strengthen home-school partnerships.
- Support ongoing communication with families regarding students academic progress and language development.
Instruction:
- Develop and implement lessons that meet the District and TEAs curricular requirements (TEKS and ELPS) and are linguistically accommodated commensurate to students language proficiency level.
- Facilitate targeted small-group and whole-group instruction based on EB students language proficiency levels and individual student needs.
- Demonstrate measurable student growth using multiple data sources to inform instruction.
- Design and/or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools to enhance student language development and engagement.
- Assist in the selection of instructional materials that align to grade level content and the language proficiency of EB students.
- Participate in professional learning activities for professional growth in job-related skills including Content-Based Language Instruction (CBLI) and research-based practices for EBs.
- Participate in LPAC ARD and MTSS/RTI meetings for EB students as needed to support appropriate instructional programming and services.
