Description


Help shape the community from the ground up. Were looking for a Code Enforcement Supervisor who can lead with integrity balance enforcement with education and ensure our neighborhoods remain safe compliant and thriving.

Under direction to coordinate investigate supervise and conduct code enforcement activities in the Code Enforcement Division of the Community Development Department; to perform public relations; to inform City officials regarding code enforcement activities; and to prepare documentation and testimony in a court of law. Exercises technical and functional supervision over lower-level staff.

Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervises assigns work trains and evaluates the work of staff responsible for performing a variety duties within code enforcement;
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures for the department;
  • Conducts field inspections and responds to citizen complaints regarding City County State and Federal laws codes and ordinances;
  • Conducts investigations and coordinates inspections with staff of other City departments;
  • Coordinates enforcement activities with other organizations groups or agencies having jurisdiction within the City;
  • Issues informational letters and warning notices citations requests for prosecution investigation reports and notices to appear;
  • Develops and implements effective public education strategies concerning City codes and ordinances; makes presentations to community groups and businesses;
  • Makes recommendations regarding budget expenditures;
  • Explains and interprets codes and ordinances;
  • Recommends code revisions before committees and City Council;
  • Ensures department compliance with legal mandates;
  • Prepares hearing reports and evidence for court actions; participates and presents in hearings communicates with attorneys;
  • Reviews field reports and determines compliance or non-compliance with laws ordinances codes and policies;
  • Maintains department activity records and workload statistics;
  • Informs the public by telephone correspondence and in person regarding code regulations and violations;
  • Prioritizes complaints from many varied sources; and
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Five years of experience in code enforcement preferably with a public agency.
Education:
  • Equivalent to an associates degree with course work in planning public or business administration criminal justice or a related field. For degrees earned outside of the U.S. an official equivalency evaluation is required.
Licensesand Certificates:
  • Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid California drivers license at the time of appointment.
  • Possession of a POST 832 Powers of Arrest issued by the State of California.
  • Code Enforcement Officer certification from the California Association or American Association of Code Enforcement.
Special Requirements:
Essential functions and duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment; ability to sit stand walk kneel crouch stoop squat crawl twist climb and lift 35 lbs.
  • Exposure to heat noise outdoors confining work space chemicals explosive materials mechanical hazards and electrical hazards.
  • Ability to travel to different sites and locations.
