Important note: Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision teach community health courses assigned.
Develop curriculum and teach non-credit courses.
Subjects include but are not limited to the following:
Wellness & Active LivingCourses that support mobility brain health balance stress reduction and overall quality of life through movement mindfulness and preventive health practices.
Leisure & Enrichment Arts crafts language and creative classes that nurture curiosity joy and meaningful community connection.
Technology & Digital Confidence Hands-on digital literacy training that builds confidence promotes safety and supports connection in an increasingly digital world.
Workforce & Community Education Skill-building programs aligned with community needs including community health caregiving and other high-demand fields.
Hawaiian Culture & Place-Based Learning Classes that celebrate ike Hawaii cultural practice ike kupuna and ike wahi strengthening connection to culture community and place.
Caregiving & Support Education Educational offerings for family and professional caregivers grounded in compassion cultural values and best practices.
Evening classes weekend classes and distance education classes may be assigned as part of the assignment.
Ability to communicate clearly and to teach for a variety of audiences including adult learners and veterans.
Teaching assignment is as needed and dependent upon course enrollment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of three years of job-related experience.
Knowledge skills ability and expertise are required in the field.
Ability to teach and assess student learning outcomes effectively.
Must be able to provide a course proposal description syllabus detailing the student outcomes and suggested budget.
Note: For the Hoomau Learning Program education and work experience requirements will vary depending on the course you are applying for:
Ikebana
Master Certificate from the respective flower arrangement style or equivalent combination of education/training and job-related experience i.e. Ikenobo Ohara Sogetsu
Tai Chi
Certification in Tai Chi instruction and
Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
Qi Gong
Certification from a Teacher Training Program (TTP):
Level 1 (Practice Leader): Usually 50100 hours. This allows someone to lead basic forms but may not provide deep why knowledge OR
Professional Instructor: Usually 200500 hours of specific Qi Gong training.
Master Level: Often requires decades of practice and thousands of hours of study.
Yoga
RYT-200 Certification: Completion of a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher program (foundational level). Certification must be from a Yoga Alliance-accredited school
Demonstrated proficiency in:
Anatomy & Physiology: Ensuring safe alignment and injury prevention.
Philosophy: Integrating traditional yoga ethics and history into practice.
Teaching Methodology: Clear sequencing cueing and classroom management.
Taiko
License or certification in the art of Taikoor equivalent combination of education/training and job-related experience
Caregiver Support and Training
Bachelors degree in Social Work Public Health and related subjects with a focus on geriatrics OR
Associates degree in a health-related field and 5 years of work-related experience OR
Community Health Worker Certificate from an accredited institution and experience working with persons who are elderly frail or developmentally disabled
Senior Fitness
Associates degree in a health-related field and 5 years of work-related experience
Desirable Qualifications:
Teaching experience at the community college or university level.
Demonstrated ability to work with adult and non-traditional learners.
Experience teaching in an online setting.
Ability to work with a culturally diverse team of people.
Good classroom management skills.
