We work to ensure that police services are delivered to community members in a respectful ethical constitutional and honest manner. - Receiving and processing complaints regarding alleged violations of the Oakland Police Departments policies. Complaints may be received by telephone in person email or written correspondence.
- Assisting community members seeking information and resources available from the City of Oakland.
- Conducting interviews with community members to document their concerns.
- Attaining collaborating and processing data provided by the complainant.
- Composing electronic and hard copy case files documenting allegations and service complaints.
- Maintaining and managing computer programs and files containing confidential records and reports.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date information in a database and/or physical file.

Minimum Requirements for Application
This recruitment will produce two eligible lists. The restricted list will be for full-time permanent part-time or part-time City and Port of Oakland employees who maintain employment for the duration of the recruitment and pass all stages of the recruitment process. The open list will be for all other applicants who pass all stages of the recruitment process.
This is a public contact position. The City highly encourages all bilingual candidates to apply! Some positions may require bilingual skills in Spanish Cantonese or Mandarin. Under the authority of Civil Service Rules Section 5.03 if a position requires bilingual language skills only those candidates who have indicated they are bilingual in the required language(s) will be referred. Bilingual candidates will be required to successfully pass a language proficiency test if selected for hire.Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the following minimum qualifications is acceptable.
Education:Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice communications social science or related field. Experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
Experience:Three (3) years of full-time experience performing standard administrative duties including a high degree of public contact. Experience with civil criminal or factual investigations preferably performing critical analysis of evidence is desirable. Law enforcement experience is also highly desirable.
License or Certificate / Other Requirements:- Individuals who are appointed to this position will be required to maintain a valid California Drivers License throughout the tenure of employment OR demonstrate the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as required in the performance of duties.
- Incumbents will be expected to work nights and weekends as necessary.
- Candidates who receive offers of employment will be required to submit fingerprints undergo a criminal record clearance and have a physical examination including a TB screening. Must pass a thorough background investigation.
- Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
- Must pass a Department of Justice fingerprint check which allows special access to law enforcement data systems.
- Must pass a six (6) hour Department of Justice training course regulating access to law enforcement data systems.
- Must meet Department of Justice and other training mandates regulating access to law enforcement data systems.

- The Recruitment Process:The City of Oakland works with a Civil Service system. Applicants apply online and HR staff reviews their experience education and training listed on the application against the minimum qualifications listed for each position.
Candidates who demonstrate that they meet the minimum qualification requirements are then invited to participate in an assessment process (or testing) to measure their knowledge skills and abilities in job-related areas.
Candidates who do not demonstrate that they meet the minimum qualification requirements will have an opportunity to request a final review. Candidates must request a final review within 5 business days of being notified that they did not meet the minimum qualifications.
In the final review candidates may clarify information already provided on their application. No additional work history education or certifications will be accepted. Any decisions made during this review process will be final.

Disaster Service Workers
