About Starick

Starick is a not-for-profit organisation operating primarily in the Perth Metropolitan South-East Corridor. Starick supports women children and young people experiencing and escaping family and domestic violence across the continuum of prevention early intervention crisis and healing.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Child Advocate to join our team on a fixed term basis until 31 December with the possibility of extension.

About the Role

The Child Advocate works directly with children and young people residing in refuge andtransitional housing providing specialist childcentred support to reduce the impact of family and domestic violence and promote safety wellbeing and positive development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing immediate and ongoing individual support to children and young people in refuge and transitional housing
  • Supporting children to settle into accommodation and feel safe and secure
  • Developing and implementing childcentred safety plans and strengthsbased case plans
  • Designing and facilitating therapeutic developmentally appropriate group programs and activities
  • Advocating for childrens emotional health and educational needs
  • Strengthening positive relationships between children and their mothers/carers
  • Liaising with schools childcare services child protection and community services
  • Supporting parents and staff with strategies to promote child development and wellbeing
  • Contributing to program outcomes aligned with funding agreements and Staricks strategic objectives

About you

You are passionate about working with children affected by family and domestic violence and bringa calm traumainformed and childfocused approach to your work.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Education Childrens Studies Youth Work Social Work Early Childhood Education and Care or a related discipline
  • At least two years experience working in FDV childcentred or family support services
  • Strong knowledge of child development and the impacts of trauma and FDV on children
  • Experience delivering childcentred programs and interventions
  • Excellent interpersonal advocacy and communication skills
  • The ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team

Requirements

  • National Police Clearance
  • Working with Children Check
  • Current WA Drivers Licence
