Job Description:
The New Jersey Historic is seeking a Architectural Survey Coordinator for a time-limited architectural reconnaissance survey project in flood-prone communities in New Jersey. The survey is intended to identify potential historic resources and areas with low potential for historic resources in communities with high concentrations of repetitive loss due to flooding. The Survey Coordinator will be responsible for planning survey fieldwork coordinating data collection and processing coordinating review of survey results by participating agencies and preparing regular status reports. The position is funded for a period of two years through a cooperative agreement with the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management. The position is full-time (35 hour work week minimum) and in person at offices in Trenton NJ.
The Survey Coordinator will be responsible for planning survey fieldwork coordinating data collection and processing coordinating review of survey results by participating agencies and preparing regular status reports. Coordinates planning fieldwork data analysis and reporting for the HPO/OEM Historic Architecture Reconnaissance Survey project. Conducts background research and compiles summary histories of target survey communities for use in desktop review and fieldwork planning. Coordinates quarterly reporting to participating agencies including narrative status updates program metrics and planned activities.
- Coordinates planning fieldwork data analysis and reporting for the HPO/OEM Historic Architecture Reconnaissance Survey project to simultaneously identify historic resources and establish areas with low potential for historic architecture.
- Conducts background research and compiles summary histories of target survey communities for use in desktop review and fieldwork planning.
- Conducts desktop review of previously surveyed communities to establish recommendations for updates to prior data additional fieldwork or
- Plans and schedules survey activities including vehicle reservations staff schedules and assignments target community selection and survey logistics for each fieldwork session.
- Ensures data collected during fieldwork sessions is transferred to appropriate repositories for continued processing and analysis. Data products include GPS data digital images digital video and updated GIS datasets.
- Prepares summary documentation for reconnaissance survey fieldwork and assists HPO GIS staff in reconciliation of GIS data and map preparation.
- Coordinates internal and external survey data review and integrates updates into initial and final survey recommendations. Assists HPO GIS staff with incorporating the same into final GIS data products.
- Coordinates quarterly reporting to participating agencies including narrative status updates program metrics and planned activities.
- Provides technical assistance regarding the survey project to internal and external constituents.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills required:
- Knowledge of federal historic preservation laws regulations and policies.
- Knowledge of New Jersey architectural history
- Knowledge of architectural survey methodology
- Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems and/or GPS data collection
- Familiarity with database management and use of online data systems
- Ability to use digital cameras and photograph architectural resources
- Ability to conduct architectural field survey
- Ability to learn new information quickly and adapt to changing conditions and priorities
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with good organizational skills
- Valid drivers license
- Additionally preference will be given to candidates that have demonstrated professional experience with architectural survey fieldwork analysis and reporting.
- Microsoft Office Adobe Acrobat
Experience required:
- At least two years of full-time experience in research writing or teaching in American architectural history or restoration architecture with an academic institution historical organization or agency museum or other professional institution; or
- Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of American architectural history.
Work hours:
- 35 Hours per week
- Lunch (unpaid): 30-60 Minutes
