Location:Könneritzstraße 47 Leipzig Germany
Contract:full-time (40 hours per week) initially fixed-term for 2 years followed by the option of a subsequent employment contract with an infinite duration


The position holder works in partnership with all school sections Kindergarten Primary and Secondary School with the main focus on Secondary School establishing goals and expectations with both staff and learners to ensure that it is used to its maximum potential.
The position holder ensures that the resourcing of the library meets teaching goals across the Primary curriculum and the Secondary IB curriculum. As such they are to be directly involved in teaching and learning across the school aligning the use of the library to the school goals.
The position holder should also stimulate inquiring minds help learners develop effective researching and library skills and encourage a love of reading. They contribute to the development of information literacy throughout the whole school.

Your tasks and responsibilities

Educational
  • Promote reading and lifelong learning through book recommendations and displays
  • Promote literacy through 1:1 or small-group reader advisory by directing learners to resources that are age-appropriate at accessible levels of difficulty and that respond to learners interest as well as information need
  • Promote the use of the library as a source of recreational and informational materials
  • Work with teaching colleagues to design curriculum and instruction in information literacy including information technology
  • Develop and deliver library and research skills lessons for different subjects
  • Support IB Theory of Knowledge (TOK) research and critical thinking activities
  • Work with teaching colleagues to provide strategies and resources to support the curriculum
  • Support learners in developing research skills by guiding them in accessing and evaluating a diverse range of resources including online research tools
  • Provide guidance on citation styles (e.g. MLA APA) and academic integrity
  • Introduce learners to tools for digital organization note-taking and referencing
  • Support IB students with Extended Essays (EE) and other research projects
  • Guide learners in responsible and ethical use of technology and online sources
  • Monitor journals and other print and electronic sources for relevant curriculum material in response to learner and teacher requests and identified needs
  • Organize reading programs author visits book clubs and literacy events
  • Coordinate Book Week IB Research Days and Extended Essay workshops
  • Support student-led library clubs or librarian assistant programs
  • Britannica School liaison promote the use of Britannica School and serve as the schools contact person

Managing the collection
  • Assess collection ensures that library materials are up to date; appropriate to the reading/understanding levels of learners and the needs of curriculum
  • Catalog materials
  • Collection development identify gaps in the collection and select suitable materials to fill them; including German and other mother tongue languages
  • Process new materials add labels plastic jackets reinforce covers etcetera
  • Re-catalog correct cataloging errors; consolidate subjects whenever possible
  • Shelving reshelve returned items daily and keep them neat and orderly
  • Mend and weed fix or remove old worn damaged or out-of-date materials
  • Database clean-up & maintenance correct and/ or enhance bibliographic records in the catalog; maintain subject headings list delete or designate missing items as lost
  • Follow-up on teachers and learners requests and order suitable materials to fill these needs
  • Reserve specific items requested by teachers and learners
  • Keep up to date on trends in the publishing industry
  • Check-in/out materials

Organisational
  • Library hours are from 07:45 16:30
  • Organize library to be a welcoming place for Primary and Secondary learners
  • Establish policies and procedures for the library and its collections
  • Remind learners about their overdue books send out overdue notices & follow-up with the Business Office for billing
  • Keep the library clean orderly and organised

Your profile

Qualification
  • Bachelors degree in Library Science or a related field like information studies
  • The Master of Library Science (MLS) preferred
  • Teaching Licensure or Certification preferred

Experience and Skills
  • Proven professional experience as a librarian preferably in a school or educational setting
  • Familiarity with internationally-minded and diverse school communities
  • High competency in written and spoken English
  • Excellent communication skills including proficiency with IT and new technologies
  • Strong ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual learners.
  • Experience in teaching learners with diverse needs especially English as an Additional Language (EAL)
  • A focus on fostering high standards of student achievement and personal development.

  • Organizational skills and a commitment to ethical and empathetic practices
