About the Role

The office of Hon Scott Minister for ACC Minister of Statistics and Deputy Leader of the House is seeking a motivated and engaging Ministerial Advisor (Level 1). We are seeking a level 1 Ministerial Advisor to provide political and operational advice across a range of portfolios.

You will be responsible for providing under guidance if required general and political advice to the Minister on their portfolio(s) and parliamentary responsibilities that are consistent with the objectives of the Government. You will develop effective relationships with Caucus coalition and support parties if required in order to facilitate progress of policy and legislation within the Ministers portfolio responsibilities. This is an events-based position based on a 3-year Parliamentary term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level advice on legislative policy and parliamentary matters.
  • Liaise with caucus coalition and support parties to facilitate policy and legislative progress.
  • Monitors select committee activity and advise on implications for Government.
  • Identify and manage political risks operating on a no surprises basis.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with Government objectives.
  • Manage OIA requests including being able to identify potential political issues which may arise and liaise with Prime Ministers office as required and provide political insight and signoff of written questions.
  • Manage oral questions in liaison with the Portfolio Private Secretaries Press Secretary and Department; prepare responses and supplementary questions; ensure Minister has supporting and other information required to respond.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience in Government advisory or political strategy roles.
  • Understanding of parliamentary processes and legislative frameworks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Requires a collaborative team focus alongside the versatility to adapt quickly in a fastpaced environment.
  • Ability to manage sensitive issues with discretion and political acumen.
  • Demonstrates emerging leadership skills through collaboration and support of team members.

The Opportunity

This is a rare chance to be a part of a high-functioning team at Parliament and contribute meaningfully to national policy. You will be based on-site at Parliament working closely with the Minister and a dedicated team. This is an events-based position based on the parliamentary term. The salary band for this is $99025 - $123231per annum with a likely appointment range of $99025 -$110027 per annum (based on skills and experience).

Eligibility Requirements

It is a vital component of the role to hold a security clearance. There are certain criteria that must be met in this regard and you must be an eligible candidate.
