Job Summary

DMPS is seeking an Advanced Learning Consultant to support elementary students and schools in the 26-27 school year.

TITLE: Advanced Learning Consultant

DEPARTMENT: Office of Academics

REPORTS TO: Advanced Learning Program Coordinators and Director

Full-Time Exempt Employee 7.75 hours per day 195 days per year (199 days in first year)

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:

Required:

1. Valid Iowa Teaching License.

2. At least two years of successful classroom experience.

3. GT Endorsement earned or ability to complete prior to beginning employment.

4. Competency in working in culturally diverse environment or willingness to obtain those skills.

Desired:

Degree in Education

2. Five years of successful classroom teaching with demonstrated leadership abilities

3. Experience working with gifted students

BASIC FUNCTION:

Advanced Learner Consultants are instructional and support professionals who provide diagnostic educational evaluation placement and programming recommendations resources and specific targeted interventions for identified advanced learners in accordance with Iowa Code. The consultants objective is to maximize the high potential of all identified students and serve their cognitive and affective needs. The consultant serves as an advocate working in collaboration primarily with teachers and identified students but also with building teams and administrators department teams district teams and administrators parents and community members/organizations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Administer and score assessments.

2. Regularly analyze available data.

3. Working in feeder patterns and focusing on equity use multiple criteria to identify students as advanced learners and determine their curricular needs.

4. Collaborate with teachers primarily in PLCs or grade level teams in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.

5. Provide appropriate educational materials and resources to classroom teachers to meet the curricular needs of identified students.

6. Collaborate with building and/or grade level teams to recommend appropriate placement options and/or acceleration based on the needs of identified students.

7. Collaborate with administrators to address specific building needs of identified students.

8. Design and coordinate enrichment opportunities for identified students and disseminate information regarding suitable opportunities. Opportunities focus on student interests and abilities.

9. Meet with students for academic planning curricular enrichment and social/emotional needs.

10. Continuously monitor the academic progress of identified students.

11. Provide staff professional development opportunities for building staff.

12. Communicate regularly with families of identified students.

13. Participate in building and district initiatives.

14. Participate in professional learning at the local state and national level.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.

2. Maintain confidentiality.

3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.

4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned
