Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Therapist and Resource Navigator to join our nonprofit team in Ward 8 DC. This hybrid role combines providing individual and group therapy with essential resource navigation support ensuring clients make initial connections with needed community services. The ideal candidate will be experienced in supporting diverse populations and comfortably addressing a range of issues including trauma depression other mental health challenges and substance use.
Location: 400 Atlantic St SE Washington DC. Our Ward 8 Hub office has free street parking and is accessible by bus but not directly via Metro train.
Key Responsibilities:
- Therapy Services (estimated 50-60% effort):
- Plan and lead individual and group therapy sessions to clients of all ages but primarily adults.
- Develop and implement therapy plans based on client needs ensuring culturally competent and trauma-informed care.
- Maintain clinical notes in our electronic record system on an ongoing basis.
- Collaborate with other mental health professionals and internal colleagues as needed to enhance service quality.
- Participate actively in one hour of weekly individual supervision and one hour of weekly group supervision with the clinical director (the chief program officer who is an LPC in DC. Note depending on the individuals license type this may not count as hours required toward pursuit of hours independent licensure).
- If/when licensed provide direct or co-supervision to up to two masters level trainees including individual and group supervision and/or case conferencing.
- Provide psychoeducational workshops in the community to reduce stigma and increase utilization of mental health concepts tools and therapy.
- Support AWC in growing clinical services and capacity as directed.
- Maintain licensure or track toward licensure including abidance of professional ethics codes and continuing education.
- Assist clients in identifying and accessing resources related to housing employment healthcare and other essential services.
- Facilitate initial client contacts with referral organizations following up to confirm connections are made.
- Educate clients on available community resources and how to navigate support systems effectively.
- Maintain relationships with referral partner organizations including meetings hosting visits visiting other organizations and sharing information about these partnerships with other staff internally.
- Design and update flyers and referral directories for common information sharing.
- Track referrals and resource recommendations in client database
- Provide brief reports on service outcomes and referrals contributing to ongoing program evaluation.
Required qualifications:
- Masters degree in psychology counseling social work or a related field.
- Licensed (or license-eligible) as an LPC LPGC LCSW LGSW or similar in Washington DC.
- Demonstrated experience in providing therapy using a trauma-informed lens with cultural sensitivity to individuals experiencing poverty and/or other systemic barriers.
- Demonstrated knowledge of helping others navigate local support resources.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a commitment to equity and inclusion.
Preferred qualifications:
- Residents of Washington DC will be given hiring preference.
Supervisor responsibilities: No staff supervision. If/when licensed may be required to provide clinical supervision to graduate interns.
Work Environment:
This position is primarily in-person Monday through Thursday from 8am to 4pm with a remote day on Fridays. For the right experienced and independently licensed clinician we are open to the position (and posted salary range) only being Monday-Thursday in person with no expectations to work Fridays.
Physical demands
Prolonged periods of sitting standing and talking on the phone.
