PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The Early Childhood Director seeks to advance and support the vision through by equipping others to teach the truth of Jesus to the next generation and by creating a nurturing environment where the next generation can develop their faith.


DESIRED RESULTS/IMPACT OF THIS POSITION

  • Be the face of the Early Childhood ministry to families with young children and to the HP Pres staff
  • Be a resource for HP Pres staff on how programming can interface well for the benefit of young children
  • Be a resource to parents volunteers and staff involved in programming to young children
  • Develop the Early Childhood Ministry Staff Team members to effectively lead their areas of Early Childhood Ministry
  • Oversee the implementation of the various programming arms of Early Childhood Ministry:
  • Recruit & train volunteer teams helping them to lead the next generation to become transformed followers of Jesus Christ.
  • Support the Assistant Director of Early Childhood to create meaningful Sunday Classes and Sunday Morning experiences that provide a safe nurturing place where young children can learn share play and develop their faith
  • Support the Associate Director of Nursery in the oversight and implementation of Ministry Child Care (birth through pre-K / kinder) to support Discipleship Ministry events.
  • Empower the Highland Kids Team in the oversight and implementation of Kid Care (birth through 6th grade) to support Discipleship Ministry events.
  • Develop promote and implement Parent Equipping experiences for Early Childhood families
  • Partner with The Day School to effectively share spaces and help integrate new families into the HP Pres family.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Development

  • Create and maintain staff and volunteer structures and functions for Sunday mornings
  • Coach train and develop paid staff of EC Ministry
  • Equip paid staff team to coach train and develop their teams (nursery teachers & volunteers)

People

  • Contact new parents/visitors and communicate with them about Early Childhood Ministry on a regular basis
  • Respond to pastoral needs of families with young children
  • Connect with volunteers on a regular basis outside of task talk
  • Be a visible presence and connect with children and parents at Highland Kids and other HP Pres events
  • Be aware of other HP Pres programming and how it affects families with young children and seek to collaborate to make programming a win for everyone impacted.

Programs

  • Support the Assistant Director of Early Childhood to create curriculum to best suit HP Pres Early Childhood needs and that gives parents language to share the large concepts of our faith in developmentally appropriate ways
  • Collaborate with all members of the Highland Kids Team to provide a dynamic and scripturally rooted VBS for the families of HP Pres and the community of Dallas
  • Support the Associate Director of Nursery to create a nursery environment that nurtures the youngest hearts and minds at HP Pres as well as their parents
  • Be a voice within the larger church to create and maintain environments that are child-focused and welcoming
  • Alongside the Highland Kids Ministry provide Parent Equipping resources for the families of HP Pres.
  • Provide other programming throughout the year that supports parents (Parents Morning Out) and helps parents teach their children about key dates on the liturgical calendar (e.g. Advent Family Experience Play & Learns for Advent and for Lent)

Operations

  • Develop and maintain balanced budget and coach team members on budget & spending best practices
  • Annually propose and write grant requests to The Woods Foundation with the Highland Kids Team in accordance with the guidelines of the Foundation.
  • Maintain accurate timecard approvals for team members who require clocking in
  • Create and maintain balanced workflow for the team granting PTO overseeing workloads and productivity
  • Create healthy and balanced calendar / scheduling rhythms for Early Childhood Programming
  • Partner with Facilities and Safety teams to ensure Early Childhood environments are welcoming safe and healthy
  • Partner with Discipleship Ministries to provide care for various Ministry events. (e.g. Becoming HP Anchor Treasure Keepers Teach Me to Pray)
  • Support Pastor to Highland Kids as needed


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Motivates and empowers team
  • Holds regularly schedule team and 1:1 meetings
  • Holds team accountable to outcomes and workplace expectations listed on position description including regular reviews
  • Works with HR and immediate supervisor in hiring and offboarding process


EDUCATION EXPERIENCE SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelors degree
  • Experience: Familiar with Biblical studies child development safety procedures; experience in leading a team
  • Skills: Microsoft office database management strong organizational planning and leadership skills ability to work within a budget ability to maintain composure under pressure ability to communicate effectively with parents children and volunteers
  • Abilities: frequent lifting under 30 lbs. lifting small children occasionally; certified or ability to be certified in first aid CPR defibrillator


WORKING CONDITIONS AND ABILITIES

  • Frequent lifting under 30 lbs.
  • Frequent bending stooping lifting; sitting for extended periods
  • Ability to maintain composure under pressure
