Our UW Tacoma Campus Safety and Security department has an outstanding opportunity for a Campus Security Officer to join their team.
About this Opportunity
This individual will provide public safety services to faculty staff students retail tenants and visitors on campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Patrol campus; protect personnel and campus property; promote and preserve safety and order; encourage voluntary compliance with state laws and University regulations and enforce as necessary; respond to crimes. Medical emergencies fire alarms intrusion alarms accidents occurring on campus; render medical first aid respond to building fire and intrusion alarms assist with building evacuations.
- Receive and conduct preliminary inquiries into complaints of suspicious behavior or criminal activity; prepare reports using technology; gather evidence; locate witnesses; protect crime scenes until relieved by proper authorities and appear in court as required.
- Operate communications equipment; answer telephone inquiries; monitor computer security system; monitor and report facility problems to appropriate services; operate department owned safety vehicles perform safety escorts; secure buildings; assist emergency public safety responders that include local law enforcement fire and medical services in the event of a crisis disaster or emergency.
- Perform related duties as required.
- This position is designated as one that performs an essential function. This means that the positions incumbent must continue to report to work as directed if the University suspends operations because of severe weather natural disaster or other emergency conditions.

Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license certification and/or registration.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants who do not meet these qualifications WILL NOT be forwarded to the Hiring Manager.
- High School graduation or equivalent; possession of a valid drivers license; no previous felony convictions; AND two years of full-time college in police science or allied field;
OR
two years of police or campus security experience.

- Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work well with and be sensitive to people from diverse backgrounds and people of all ages.
- The ability to remain courteous and considerate while working in demanding and stressful situations.
- A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
