Duration: 13-Week Contract
Pay Rate: $17/hour
Shift: Evening Shift (3:00 PM 11:30 PM)
Schedule: 24 Hours/Week Every Other Weekend Required
Job Overview
Navitas Healthcare LLC is seeking a compassionate and dependable Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to support a Behavioral Health Unit in Gardner MA. The ideal candidate will provide direct patient care and assist individuals with psychiatric and behavioral health needs in a safe respectful and therapeutic environment. This role requires strong communication skills patience and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing feeding toileting grooming and mobility
- Monitor patient safety and conduct routine safety checks throughout the unit
- Support patients experiencing behavioral or emotional challenges using de-escalation techniques
- Provide 1:1 patient observation when required
- Record and report patient information accurately and promptly
- Assist with transporting patients to appointments testing or other departments
- Participate in therapeutic activities and group sessions as directed
- Maintain a clean organized and safe patient care environment
- Communicate effectively with nurses and interdisciplinary healthcare team members
- Assist with maintaining patient belongings and unit organization
- Observe patient activity in common areas to ensure safety and compliance
Required Qualifications
- Active CNA certification required (Massachusetts certification preferred)
OR one of the following:
- Completion of at least 75 hours in an accredited nursing program including first clinical rotation
- Active EMT or Paramedic certification
- Active Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification
- Active Home Health Aide (HHA) certification
Additional Requirements
- AHA CPR certification required within 60 days of hire
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting preferred
- Behavioral health or psychiatric patient care experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach to care
- Ability to work evening shifts weekends and in a collaborative team environment
