Job Description:

Service Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic or typical of the job class:

  • Ongoing daily weekly and monthly maintenance and cleaning of the Food Service Department.
  • Prepare and follow menus considering the Canada Food Guide leftovers and donated food. If required adjust menu accordingly.
  • To network and maintain good rapport with The Salvation Armys different Ministry Units and outside Community Organizations.
  • Effectively utilize volunteers and students.
  • Perform all the functions of a cook and supervise your team.
  • To maintain strict security of the kitchen dining room food storage areas and equipment. If necessary call for assistance
  • In the absence of the Food Services Coordinator order and purchase food weekly according to menu donations and budget.
  • Receive and check food and supplies for quality quantity and accuracy of order.
  • Must wear cooks uniform while on duty as provided by The Salvation Army.
  • Maintain inventory daily logs food time lines and temperature control and follow Food Safe and HACCP guidelines.
  • Adhere to government health and safety regulations and cleanliness standards on a daily weekly and monthly basis as required.
  • Maintain statistical and food control records.
  • Continually seeks to improve existing & ongoing operations.
  • Willing and able to develop professionally as required.
  • Follow all protocol policies and procedures for the Food Service Department.
  • To provide The Salvation Army Booth Center with a positive visibility within the C.A.R.S. Facility.
  • Any concerns or issues must be addressed with your immediate supervisor.
  • To attend Booth Center and C.A.R.S. Staff meetings as required.
  • To prepare as required food for the other C.A.R.S. Ministries in consultation with the respective manager.
  • To maintain count of meal tickets received and log the number of meals served.
  • Monitors and completes preventative maintenance procedures for Food Service Equipment. When there is an equipment malfunction notify on call person then contact appropriate service representatives for repairs.
  • Ordering of the regular and ongoing supplies as required for the ongoing operation of the Food Service Department in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Maintain the daily cleaning schedule for the Food Service Department.
  • Other duties as required.

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Armys health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a Culinary Arts Diploma or a minimum of five proven years cooking experience in a commercial or non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of commercial and institutional cooking equipment.
  • A valid Food Safe Certification.
  • Have current First Aid/CPR Certification
  • The position requires a frequent amount of standing and the incumbent must be able to lift and carry heavy objects as required.
  • Must adhere to safety procedures and regulations.
  • Ability to plan and vary menus considering leftovers donated food and track inventory food storage.
  • Ability to maintain correctness in ordering and receiving supplies.
  • Must be able & willing to work long hours.
  • Highly self-motivated a self starter with the ability to carry out plans to fruition.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Proven experience in following directions and a set plan.
  • Well-developed planning organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate other employees officers and volunteers as and when needed.
  • Able to clearly and accurately communicate factual information/data when needed.
  • Willingness and ability to work under stressful circumstances.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and willingness to sign confidentiality statement.
  • Willingness to participate in on-going professional development.
  • Willingness to abide by and fulfill The Salvation Armys Mission Statement Vision Statements and Positional Statements.
  • Provide a Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
  • Be able to obtain clearance through the Enhanced Reliability Screening through Corrections Canada.
  • When working 4 hours you are entitled to a paid 15 minute coffee break.
  • When working 5 hours or more a half hour unpaid lunch will be provided.
  • Must have Hep B Vaccinations and Vaccination against Tuberculosis and provide documentation of the same.
  • Use of hairnets/hats and gloves while on duty is mandatory.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position is regular Part-time at 22 hrs/wk
  • Schedule will vary according to requirements of responsibilities - some weekend and evening work may be required.
  • When on duty you will be to wear uniform supplied by Thunder Bay C.A.R.S.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $20.09 to $25.11 with a maximum of $30.13.

Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
