Johnson County Mental Health Center (JCMHC) is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Emergency Services Team Leader (Screen and Assessment) within the Emergency Services Division. As a Community Mental Health center in the state of Kansas JCMHC serves as a gate keeper for the state hospital system. Also since 2020 JCMHC and Olathe Medical Center have partnered to provide high quality care to those in need of a behavioral health assessment when presenting to the Emergency Department or a medical addition to these two sources of screens and assessments this team also assists with assessments for our justice involved youth and adults experiencing mental health crises. Screens and assessments are completed to best identify the most appropriate level of care and supports for an individual; a process we hold in high esteem. This position oversees Competency Evaluation efforts to ensure proper assessment of individuals competency to stand trial. This team is comprised of both full time and part time/prn clinicians that cover 24 hours a day 365 days a year. This position is one of 8 Team Leaders in the Emergency Services Division and reports to a Deputy Division Director.

Job Description

The Team Leaders routine schedule will be M-F 8-5p. However the role will require some flexibility outside of normal work hours to accommodate other obligations such as meetings or trainings. Application review will begin on May 15 2026.

Job duties include:

  • Provides supervision of Clinicians.
  • Participates in the planning management and administration of the program.
  • Works collaboratively with other Team Leaders and Emergency Services Leadership
  • Responds to clinical needs of the program; ensures application of evidenced-based practices and protocols to meet expected standards.
  • Responds to crises on team as well as crises on other teams when needed; conducts various assessments and screenings as needed.
  • Ensures that staffing needs of program services are met including hiring process.
  • Ensures that documentation follows Center and State guidelines; overviews team documentation and provides training to team to ensure Center and State standards are met.
  • Participate in agency work groups and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitates positive working relationships within team program agency and community.
  • Maintains licensure in good standing with the KS BSRB
  • Support clinicians conducting court ordered competency evaluations
  • Oversees administration of screens and assessments related to potential psychiatric hospitalization of vulnerable persons in the community
  • Work closely with local and state hospitals to help coordinate care for individuals requiring involuntary hospitalization
  • Lead program development and coordination with Johnson County Courts Attorneys and Justice Partners within Johnson County

Job Requirements

Job Requirements
Masters degree in Social Work Counseling Psychology or other Human Services Field and Kansas Behavioral Sciences licensure at the masters level in the area of focus is required. A KS/MO drivers license and acceptable driving record are also required.

Three (3) years of clinical experience working with persons with a serious mental illness or relevant experience;One (1) year leading directing supervising or coordinating the work of others; and one (1) year of experience working in a community based service environment or relevant experience are required.


Kansas Behavioral Sciences at the clinical level and previous supervisory or leadership experience are preferred.


Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
